Tabasco sauce

The famous hot sauce was invented by American businessman Edmund McIllenny in 1868. One drop of the sauce will be enough to make anyone who tries it “spew fire”.

History of Tabasco Sauce

Today, the sauce is made according to the same recipe as more than 140 years ago. The pulp of chili peppers, mixed with salt, is first aged for up to 3 years in white Limousin oak barrels. Then mixed with pre-prepared vinegar, filtered and bottled.

The classic Tabasco sauce has between 2500 and 5000 Scoville hotness units, and the hottest sauce has over 7000 hotness units. Therefore, experienced bartenders recommend handling the sauce very carefully when preparing cocktails.

The sauce, if stored properly, may not spoil for up to 5 years, other similar types of sauce have a shorter shelf life: up to 18 months.
