Syntarpen is a systemic antibacterial drug. Beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is recommended for skin and soft tissue infections, lower respiratory tract infections and osteomyelitis. Syntarpen is in the form of capsules. It is issued on prescription.

Syntarpen – indications and dosage

Syntarpen is indicated for the treatment of the following infections caused by staphylococci:

  1. skin and soft tissue infections (furunculosis),
  2. lower respiratory tract infections,
  3. purulent burn and postoperative complications, osteomyelitis, mainly post-traumatic (oral tablets are given at a later stage of treatment).

Dosage

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 20 kg: The usual dose is 500 mg every 6 hours. In severe infections, the use of intramuscular or intravenous cloxacillin is recommended.
  2. Children weighing less than 20 kg: Intravenous administration of cloxacillin is recommended.

In patients with renal insufficiency, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate dose depending on the degree of renal failure and the severity of the infection (the doctor may recommend reducing the dose or extending the interval between doses).

Use orally. Syntarpen tablets should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Syntarpen and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Syntarpen is hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. other penicillins, cephalosporins).

Syntarpen – warnings

  1. Syntarpen has no influence on the ability to drive vehicles and operate devices / machines.
  2. Please consult your doctor before taking the drug and inform him if you have ever had hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins or cephalosporins, or to other drugs or allergens.
  3. Your doctor will usually check your blood count, kidney function and liver function regularly during long-term treatment or during long-term treatment.
  4. People with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use this preparation because it contains lactose.
  5. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.

Syntarpen – side effects

Among the side effects we can mention: anuria, haematuria, interstitial nephritis, renal tubular dysfunction, gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, pseudomembranous enteritis, diarrhea, stomatitis, black hairy tongue), superinfections with resistant bacteria and yeasts, increased liver enzymes, cholestatic jaundice , hepatitis, transient eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, rash, itching, hives, pain in the muscles and joints.
