Symptoms of infectious mononucleosis

How to recognize a mononucleosis?

  • fatigue extreme.
  • Swelling and tenderness of ganglia neck: many may swell at this level.
  • Access from fever up to 40,5 ºC (105 ºF) which is often accompanied by chills. Fever and chills can last one to two weeks!
  • Un sore throat pronounced (which can go, in the extreme, to the inability to swallow). The throat is red with white deposits, even membranes.
  • Headaches.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Sometimes generalized muscle pain and joint pain.
  • A rash may appear, most often after taking antibiotics.
  • An increase in the volume of the spleen is sometimes noticeable by the doctor (by feeling the abdomen).

The fever and sore throat last 2 to 3 weeks, but fatigue can last for several months.

Important. In case of acute pain localized in the upper left of the abdomen, consult a doctor immediately. This could mean that the spleen is swollen and likely to rupture.
