Symptoms of diabetes and a sick heart can be seen on the feet. Pinch your finger and watch

Poor circulation in the feet is not a trivial problem, but a sign that your health is not going well. It could be a signal of diabetes, Raynaud’s disease, heart problems, arteries. Are you wondering if you are okay with the blood supply to your feet? You can easily check this with a quick and simple test. It will take you less than 5 seconds.

Poor circulation in the feet – causes

Poor circulation is not a condition in itself, but a signal of health problems. It occurs when the surrounding blood vessels harden or narrow, which restricts blood flow.

There are many reasons for poor blood circulation in the feet (and not only). The most common are atherosclerosis (it leads to chronic ischemia of the lower limbs), diabetes (high blood sugar damages blood vessels), obesity (increases the risk of circulatory disorders). PAD, i.e. peripheral arterial disease (PAD causes narrowing of blood vessels and arteries), blood clots, Raynaud’s disease (causes narrowing of small arteries in the hands and toes, for example) can also lead to poor circulation in the legs.

The risk of circulatory problems and some of the diseases mentioned above is additionally increased by lack of physical activity, smoking, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

How do you know if you have poor blood circulation in your feet. Symptoms

People with poor circulation often complain that their feet are cold, numb, and that they may experience a tingling sensation. Discoloration or a change in skin color may also appear – the feet may turn red, blue, purple, white. Muscle spasms, throbbing or stabbing pain are also signals of poor blood circulation.

  1. What diseases can numbness in the legs indicate?

So remember: the foot must be warm, the skin color normal, without any swelling or numbness. Otherwise, you probably have circulatory problems.

Rapid blood circulation test. Check capillary filling time (capillary time)

The condition of the circulatory system can be checked by assessing the time it takes to fill the capillaries with blood. Indian Manipal Hospitals recommends it in a video posted on YT (below). The test takes only a few seconds. First, however, let’s explain what it is all about.

Capillaries form a dense network of tiny blood vessels that wrap around the tissues. They reach almost every cell of the body, participating in the exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients and waste products between blood and cells.

  1. High cholesterol symptoms you may notice on your legs. Don’t underestimate it, it could be PAD!

How to conduct a capillary time test? It is very easy. Squeeze the tip of the big toe and hold until it turns white. Then release the pressure. The normal color should return after 2-3 seconds. Longer time to fill the capillaries with blood may indicate poor blood supply to the tissues. In this case, consult your doctor. Do the same if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

We encourage you to listen to the latest episode of the RESET podcast. This time we devote it to the problems of the perineum – a part of the body just like any other. And although it concerns all of us, it is still a taboo subject that we are often ashamed to talk about. What do hormonal changes and natural births change? How not to harm the pelvic floor muscles and how to care for them? How do we talk about perineal problems with our daughters? About this and many other aspects of the problem in a new episode of the podcast.
