Unfortunately, there are no exact statistics on ectopic pregnancies, but it is assumed in the community that there is one ectopic (i.e. ectopic) pregnancy in every 200 pregnancies.
Such a pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops outside the womb. Usually it is the fallopian tube, sometimes it happens that the embryo implants in the ovary, abdominal organs or cervix. Unfortunately, none of these places are suitable for the optimal development of pregnancy, which, if the fetus grew, would tear the organ it is in. Thus, an ectopic pregnancy is directly life threatening to the mother as it can lead to dangerous bleeding.
The symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy are the same as those of a normal, normal pregnancy. Menstruation ceases first, breast tenderness may be observed, usually also nausea, vomiting and more frequent urination. In addition to the standard symptoms of pregnancy, there are also pains or bleeding. A woman carrying an ectopic pregnancy often experiences severe pain in the pelvis, abdomen, sometimes even shoulder or neck pain. Of course, pain symptoms can be different, involve different parts of the body and have different intensity, sometimes there may be no pain at all. In most cases, however, there is low blood pressure, lower back pain, and sometimes fainting, which causes blood loss. Spotting during pregnancy can also indicate an ectopic pregnancy. In addition, pallor, sweating and increasing symptoms of shock, irregularly appearing dark bleeding from the genital tract can be observed (usually about 2 months after the menstrual period has stopped).
Below are the types of ectopic pregnancy:
The most common, as in 99% of cases, is a tubal pregnancy. In this case, the embryo implants in the fallopian tube, resulting in a tubal miscarriage or rupture of the fallopian tube if the pregnancy has been going on for a long time. A woman often weakens, turns pale, and her heart rate accelerates, and when the fallopian tube bursts – there is suddenly severe pain, followed by shock, which is a direct threat to the woman’s life.
Another is an ovarian pregnancy, which develops and implants in the ovary. This type of pregnancy occurs in more cases in women who have already had pregnancies and their age is approaching 40 years of age. The symptoms are similar to those of a tubal pregnancy.
A cervical pregnancy, on the other hand, occurs when the cell has implanted below the internal opening of the uterus, which carries a very high risk of heavy bleeding. Such a pregnancy usually ends before the 20th week. Typically, its symptoms are the appearance of bloody, irregular bleeding after your period has stopped.
Abdominal pregnancy, on the other hand, is the least common ectopic pregnancy and occurs when the embryo implants itself in one of the organs in the abdominal cavity. The main symptom of this type of pregnancy is severe pain in the lower abdomen, prolonged vomiting, diarrhea or constipation may also occur.
