Symptoms and people at risk of chickenpox
Symptoms of the disease
In a person who has been in contact with the virus, symptoms usually appear in the 14 to 16 days following contamination.
During a period of 5 or 6 days at most:
- slight fever;
- of the red pimples rashes, which look like insect bites, sometimes spread all over the body (even mucous membranes);
pimples turn into small round blisters, filled with a clear liquid;
- of the itching.
After a few days, as they appear, the blisters dry out and form a crust. At this point, they are no longer contagious.
People at risk
Chickenpox can be caught at any age, but 90% of cases arise before the age of 10.
