Sylvie 20 – indications

Sylvie 20 are coated tablets intended for oral use. They are used in gynecology. The indication for taking is the prevention of pregnancy by means of hormonal contraception.

Sylvie 20 – squad

Silvie 20 is a typical combined contraceptive. The drug consists of two substances:

  1. ethinylestradiol – synthetic estrogen, a substance derivative of natural estradiol, which after oral administration is not broken down in the digestive system; to replace physiological oestrogens that are inhibited when taking Sylvie 20 and similar
  2. gestodene – belongs to the third generation gestagens, it is a derivative of testosterone; as a steroid hormone, it affects the receptors of the cell nucleus.

Sylvie 20 – how to take?

Sylvie 20 should be taken orally, according to the frequency determined by your doctor. It is important to take the tablets regularly and never miss a dose. One tablet should be taken at the same time each day for the next 21 days. The next 7 days should be a break from taking Sylvie 20.

Before taking the medicine, it is necessary to check the expiry date stated on the package. After it expires, you should refrain from using Sylvie 20. The drug should be kept in a tightly closed container, as recommended by the manufacturer, out of the reach of children.

Sylvie 20 – contraindications

Situations in which Sylvie 20 should be discontinued are:

  1. hypersensitivity to the components of the drug,
  2. diabetes,
  3. coagulation and thromboembolic disorders,
  4. vascular diseases of the eyes,
  5. migraines
  6. arterial hypertension,
  7. unexplained vaginal bleeding
  8. malignant tumors associated with sex hormones, including breast cancer or cancer of the genital organs
  9. taking antibiotics (penicillins and tetracyclines), barbiturates, hydantoin derivatives, primidone, rifampicin, carbamazepine or preparations containing St. John’s wort,
  10. taking other medications, also without a prescription (consultation with a doctor is required),
  11. pregnancy, suspected pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Sylvie 20 – side effects

  1. Side effects can occur both with the medicine and when you stop taking Sylvie 20. These include:
  2. vaginitis
  3. change in libido,
  4. changeable mood, including depression,
  5. dizziness, nausea and vomiting
  6. nervousness,
  7. acne,
  8. stomach pain,
  9. tenderness and soreness and discharge from the breasts
  10. painful periods
  11. changes in vaginal mucus and menstrual bleeding
  12. swelling
  13. fluid retention in the body,
  14. weight gain or weight loss.

Much less often, the use of Sylvie 20 may cause:

  1. flatulence
  2. abdominal muscle cramps
  3. rash or chloasma
  4. hypertension,
  5. hirsutyzm,
  6. alopecia
  7. change in plasma lipid levels.

Menstrual disorders, including amenorrhoea, may occur during discontinuation of the drug.

The drug is available on prescription from pharmacies. Sylvie 20 in the package contains 21 tablets corresponding to one cycle of taking. The price of the drug is about PLN 25. Sylvie 20 substitutes include Nobabelle and Kontracept, among others.
