Swine flu is killing in Ukraine

Already 25 people have died from influenza in the last three months in Ukraine, twelve of them in the last week. Most fell victim to the A / H1N1 virus, known as the swine flu virus.

The number of patients continues to grow. Fearing an epidemic, the Ministry of Health in Kiev plans to close schools during the threat. Although two days ago a representative of the ministry, Lyubov Nekrasova, emphasized that the epidemiological threshold had not been exceeded. The largest number of deaths due to influenza in Ukraine was recorded in the Odessa Oblast. The rest are in the Vinnytsia and Kharkiv regions. Two people died in Kiev alone.

The so-called “swine flu” was first diagnosed in pigs. The virus that causes seasonal epidemics in pigs does not usually affect humans. However, when it does, it can spread rapidly from person to person and spread to the extent of a pandemic. Although we are so afraid of swine flu, it is not it that kills, but the complications it gives. The most common is pneumonia, but it also happens that the flu dramatically exacerbates the course of other diseases we suffer from, such as diabetes or asthma. In order to finally verify whether we have the common flu or the flu caused by the H1N1 virus, a virus identification test should be performed. Certainly an alarming symptom is vomiting and runny nose accompanying high fever, chills and headaches – especially the latter. Because although it accompanies, for example, a cold, it does not occur in the case of ordinary, but in the case of swine flu.
