Among those included in the study rats were divided into two groups that differed in the way of feeding. For 11 weeks, one of them was given artificial-sweetened water sweeteners (saccharin, aspartame, sucralose), was it test sample. The rest were given water, which was sweetened with sugar – saccharose. It was a control group. As it turned out? Mouse glycemic those consuming artificial sweeteners were higher than those fed with sugar. They were at a level that suggested a metabolic disease.

‘No’ to sweeteners?

Sweeteners they are not digested and absorbed by the human body, but after ingestion, they come into contact with bacteria living in the digestive system. They reach the intestines unchanged and therefore affect the composition of the bacterial microflora. Research suggests it is these changes may be responsible for glucose intolerance. Mice eating natural sugar showed no change in the composition of intestinal bacteria, and also did not manifested symptoms of glucose intolerance.

Sugar (sucrose) has proven to be for rats less harmful than artificial sweeteners, it does not induce in the body glucose tolerance disorders.

Willing see if similar effects can be observed on people, a similar study was conducted on a group of 400 people. Proven that people consuming artificial sweeteners are more likely to overweight and glucose intolerance. The next step in studying the effects of sweeteners on the functioning of the organism was carried out on only 7 people. Not they ate sweeteners on a daily basis, and when included in the study they received their maximum daily amounts. Among the three of them, no pathological changes were observed, while in four they occurred changes in the composition of the gut bacteria. Their microflora became like this characteristic of metabolic diseases. Moreover appeared with them the problem of glucose intolerance. In the course of the conducted research it was observed that that the use of artificial sweeteners contributes to growth body weight and to the development of abdominal obesity. 

Anyone aware of a first and foremost, the health-conscious consumer should be aware the fact that all light and zero products have an effect negatively on the human body. They certainly should not be part of a weight loss diet. Regular and frequent them consumption may lead to the gradual development of serious disorders, ie glucose intolerance and, in the future, diabetes mellitus.
