Sweetened: honey facial massage

Mentioning massage, we most often talk about the body. However, it is also useful to knead the face, stroking it, lightly rubbing and patting it. We tell you what honey facial massage is, why our skin needs it and how to do it correctly at home with maximum benefit.

What is honey facial skin massage

Probably, honey massage has been known since time immemorial – having learned about the beneficial properties of honey, people have probably tried to put it on the skin. And then they distributed it with stroking and patting movements. Perhaps it seemed to them less pleasant than a massage with aromatic oils: honey sticks to the hands, and if you quickly and sharply tear your palms off the skin, painful sensations cannot be avoided. But the benefits, as it turned out, were tangible – some ancient doctors recommended treating even spinal diseases with honey massage (probably due to the warming effect).

Now such massage is mainly used for cosmetic purposes. Salons are increasingly offering it as an anti-cellulite body treatment and are advertising honey facial massage with might and main, which we will talk about next. To whom is it recommended?

Probably the best facial massage ever!

Indications and contraindications

Acupuncturists believe that with the help of honey facial massage, even internal organs can be influenced. For example, by massaging the forehead, improve bowel function, work out some points on the cheeks, improve the health of the lungs, and by stroking the nose in a certain way, improve the functioning of the heart. There are no detailed studies on this topic, but it is known for certain that honey facial massage:

  • improves skin tone;

  • activates cellular metabolism and renewal processes;

  • promotes the elimination of toxins;

  • softens the skin, makes it pleasant to the touch, velvety.

Perhaps the only contraindication is an allergy to honey. Before agreeing to the procedure, it is necessary to conduct an allergy test: apply a little honey on the elbow bend and wait 10 minutes. If during this time there is no redness, swelling or itching, you can safely go for a massage. Otherwise, you will have to choose another procedure.

If you are not allergic to honey, be sure to try this procedure!

What gives facial massage with honey: the effect and benefits of the procedure

If you are one of those lucky ones who benefit from honey in any form, do not deny yourself the pleasure. Moreover, honey facial massage performs several tasks at once.

  1. Cleansing. Despite the dense, sticky texture (or maybe because of it?), honey perfectly cleanses the skin of any type. Moreover, the oily one relieves inflammation, and the dry one softens and moisturizes. Miracle, right?

  2. Exfoliation. Honey can be used as a peel. It will remove the layer of dead cells and slightly whiten the skin.

  3. Acceleration of regeneration processes. By activating the lymph flow and blood flow, it accelerates cell renewal. Contribute to this vitamins and minerals contained in honey: iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and others.

  4. Skin nutrition. Honey contains hundreds of biological substances, many of which are still not named or identified. Some are responsible for strengthening local immunity, others for a bactericidal effect, and others actively nourish the skin. Their content varies depending on the area in which the honey was collected, the time of year and the type of bees. But if it is “live” honey, it will be useful in any case and – do not hesitate! – Nourishes the skin with valuable substances.

  5. Wrinkle prevention. Honey vitamins, polyphenols and antioxidants are consumed by the skin with great pleasure. And thanks us for the fresh, healthy-looking dessert. Those who regularly practice honey massage rarely complain of wrinkles – they almost do not have them!

How to do honey facial massage

Better than honey massage in the salon can only be… honey massage in the salon. Of course, you can practice it at home (it’s much cheaper), but be prepared for some difficulties.
  1. Honey is not the most convenient material. He somehow incomprehensibly stains everything around. Even if you’ve taken the precaution of massaging in the bathroom, don’t be surprised if your bedroom floor suddenly becomes sticky. It will be difficult not to stain your clothes. Not to mention that you are 99% likely to have to wash your hair (even if your hair was tucked under a towel). Honey massage is really more convenient to perform in the salon.

  2. The experience of the master is important. The effectiveness of massage depends on the technique of execution. At the master in the salon, it is a priori better (only if you yourself are not a massage specialist).

Skin cleansing

First you need to cleanse the skin. Any usual means will do – gel, foam, lotion, micellar water, milk, etc. What is your ideal skin cleansing scheme? Find out by taking our quiz.

Applying honey

The best honey for massage is fresh and liquid, candied can scratch the skin. But the main thing is natural, only it contains biologically active substances. Fake will not bring benefits.

Honey is applied to dry skin with fingertips. It is important to do this strictly along the massage lines. And leave for 5-10 minutes.

Massage

Start with tapping. Fingers lightly touch the skin so that they stick and come off. If the massage does not cause discomfort, you can try patting – they are a little more painful, but there should not be strong discomfort. Movements – from the forehead to the temples, from the wings of the nose to the cheekbones, from the chin to the cheeks.

After a while, you will notice that some of the honey has been absorbed, and some has remained on the face. The areas on which honey lingered are called problem areas by some cosmetologists. They need to be actively worked on.

After the procedure

When honey turns into a grayish mass, remove it from the face with gentle rolling movements (almost a peeling roll!). Rinse off the residue with cool water, wipe your face with an ice cube and apply a moisturizer.

Skin care overview

We decided not to select products for skin care after a massage – you yourself probably know what to use in these cases (we wrote about this more than once). Our review focuses on cosmetics with honey – one that, in the humble opinion of the Healthy-Food editors, can have an effect similar to a honey facial massage, and sometimes even surpass it due to a carefully balanced composition.

Night face balm “Luxury nutrition” with manuka honey and calcium B5, L’Oréal Paris

Native to New Zealand, manuka honey isn’t just a trendy ingredient — it’s truly teeming with active ingredients. That is why it was chosen as one of the key ingredients. Balm softens and strengthens even very dry skin.

Cleansing gel for the face “Basic care” with flower honey, Garnier

Great face cleanser. Easy to foam, easy to apply, thoroughly removes dirt. But the best part is that the cleansing properties are combined with the care function. The skin after application of the gel looks (and feels) much better!

Make-up remover milk “Basic care” with flower honey for dry skin, Garnier

To remove makeup, put some milk on a cotton pad and wipe your face with it. The tool will not only remove impurities, but also take care of the skin.

Gel-foam for removing makeup and cleansing the skin of the face Miel-En-Mousse, Lancôme

Honey, slightly viscous gel in contact with water turns into a gentle foam. And this foam literally melts on the skin, turning a banal make-up removal into a spa ritual. And what a scent it has!

Renewing face cream Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream, Kiehl’s

The same New Zealand Manuka honey strengthens the protective barrier of the skin, nourishes it and stimulates the regenerative processes. Ginseng root extract is responsible for skin renewal. The cream is suitable for all skin types and actively fights the signs of aging.
