Melitopol varieties of sweet cherries are traditionally popular throughout our country. This is a large and sweet berry, which everyone loves to eat.

Cherry variety “Melitopol black” is in the State Register for the North Caucasus region. A variety was invented with the direct participation of a variety of culture called “French Black”. Bred at the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture. M.F. Sidorenko UAAN by breeder M.T. Oratovsky.
Description of the culture
This tree is a fast growing tree. An adult plant reaches a large size. Its crown is round, dense and wide. The leaves, like the fruits themselves, are large: ripe berries reach a mass of up to 8 grams, oval in shape, dark red (almost black) in color. The pulp and juice are also dark red.

The palatability is excellent, the berries are sweet with a pleasant sourness and a barely perceptible (peculiar to sweet cherry) bitterness, dense in structure.
Melitopol black cherry is suitable for cultivation in the south of Our Country, Ukraine and Moldova. In these regions, it is grown on an industrial scale.
The fruits do not crack and do not crumble.

The culture tolerates frost well. Even in the cold of winter, at an ambient temperature of -25 C. The freezing point reached only 0,44. But during severe spring frosts, the death of pistils can reach 52%.

In contrast to the variety “Melitopolskaya early”, the sweet cherry of this variety belongs to mid-ripening varieties of maturity.
