Two of the three COVID-19 pandemic scenarios that Swedish health authorities presented on Thursday point to an increase in infections in the fall and winter. However, the forecast wave is to be milder than the previous ones, even though the country has already lifted all restrictions.

– New scenarios indicate the continued spread of COVID-19 infection. (…) The most important thing now is that as many people as possible get vaccinated and that whoever feels sick should stay at home. Unvaccinated people should follow special recommendations, said Anders Tegnell’s chief epidemiologist.
The unvaccinated should, inter alia, keep a distance, avoid human communities, and do not contact risk groups.
The first scenario of the Public Health Authority assumes that the level of infections will remain at the current “low” level in the next three months. In Sweden, 792 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the last XNUMX hours.
In the second version, if interpersonal contacts will be more frequent, the peak of infections will be approx. 2,5 thousand. daily COVID-19 cases will fall in late December / early January.
In the third variant, which Swedish epidemiologists consider unlikely, in the case of high intensity of contacts, up to 5 people will be registered in winter. cases of infections daily.
According to Swedish experts, the projected increase in infection in the fall and winter is partly due to lower temperatures and humid air. The upcoming wave, however, is to be smaller than the one that took place a year ago. As indicated, it is related to the high level of vaccination of the society. So far, 19 percent of both doses of the anti-COVID-80 drug have been received. people over 16 years of age, and one 84,6 percent. The elderly and the chronically ill receive the third dose.
After the lifting of all restrictions in Sweden at the end of September, no increase in the incidence was recorded.
