Description of the marsh mushroom

The fruiting bodies of the species are not too large. They are distinguished by a noticeable bright color, not very characteristic of a breast.

Cap Description

Hat width up to 55 mm. Appears convex, later opens, with a depression in the center, sometimes transforms into a funnel. Other Features:

  • protruding tubercle in the center;
  • in young specimens, the border is smooth, bent, later lowered;
  • the skin is slightly wrinkled;
  • color chestnut, brown-reddish to terracotta and ocher;
  • top lightens with age.

Below are narrow, densely spaced plates that descend to the stem. Lamellar layer and spore powder are reddish.

The marsh species has creamy white flesh. Light brown under the skin, darker below on the stem. When broken, whitish juice comes out, which immediately darkens to yellow-gray.

Description of the leg

Leg height up to 70 mm, width up to 10 mm, dense, hollow with age, pubescent near the ground. The color of the surface corresponds to the color of the cap or lighter.

Where and how to grow

Marsh mushrooms grow in the temperate forest zone, in lowlands covered with moss, under birches, pines and lindens. The species is distributed in Belarusian and Volga forests, in the Urals and in the West Siberian taiga. The mushroom picker is met infrequently, the family is large. Collected from June or August to September-October, depending on the locality.

Is the mushroom edible or not?

Small reddish mushrooms are edible. According to nutritional value, they belong to category 3 or 4.

How to cook marsh mushroom

The collected mushrooms are placed in water and soaked to extract bitter juice for 6-60 hours. Then salted or marinated. Sometimes, after soaking, the fruiting bodies are boiled for half an hour and hot salted or fried.

Cooking Rules:

  • the first water is poured out with bitterness, a new one is poured and boiled;
  • when soaking in the morning and evening, change the water;
  • salted fruiting bodies will be ready in 7 or 15-30 days, depending on the salt concentration.

Twins and their differences

Conditionally edible looks like a marsh mushroom papillary breast, it is slightly larger, with a cap up to 90 mm. The color of the skin is brown, with an admixture of gray, bluish or purple tones. The height of the whitish leg is up to 75 mm. The species grows in forests on sandy soils.

Inedible double – lactic orange, which is considered poisonous by some scientists. Toxins are not so strong as to cause great harm to health, but cause gastrointestinal upset. Orange lactic cap 70 mm wide, young convex, then depressed. The color of the smooth, slippery skin is orange. The foot is the same tone. Milkweeds grow in deciduous forests from mid-summer.
