In the UK, they announced the successful completion of treatment for a woman who has fought COVID-19 longer than other patients in the country. She spent about four months in intensive care.
In February, even before the pandemic began, Fatima Bridle and her husband Tracey went on vacation to Morocco. The couple spent about a month in the country and returned to the UK shortly before the quarantine measures were introduced.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus has not spared travelers. In early March, Fatima and Tracey felt unwell and their infection tests were confirmed.
Soon, both spouses were hospitalized. The 57-year-old man quickly recovered. But his 35-year-old wife was getting worse every day.
In the third week of treatment, Fatima needed to be connected to a ventilator. The woman spent 105 days in intensive care – 40 of them she was in a coma.
The British woman defeated the coronavirus at the end of April, but the infection hit her lungs so badly that they functioned by 10-20%.
Finally, the other day, doctors announced that Fatima no longer needs a ventilator. She was transferred to the rehabilitation department and in a few weeks they plan to let her go home.
Unfortunately, there can be no talk of a full restoration of the woman’s health: one of Bridle’s lungs is almost non-functional. However, doctors still consider her case unique.
“Surviving after this is just incredible and more like a dream. I am grateful that the doctors gave me a chance, ”Fatima shared her emotions with The Sun tabloid.
All these months Tracy did not see his wife – after he recovered, the doctors forbade him to go to the hospital. The spouses prefer to keep in touch with the help of silent video calls, as well as SMS messages – so as not to strain the respiratory system of Fatima, who has lost the habit of voice stress.
