“A subordinate, in front of his superiors, must look dashing and foolish, so as not to embarrass his superiors with his understanding”

Decree of Peter I

This article will be short, with one key insight.

My friend, reader, what do you call yourself — Head or boss?

And your people are subordinates or employees?

Little things? What images come to your mind when you hear these words?

Pause, read them again, imagine.

Thesis — as you call the boat, so it will float.

If you are head, what are you doing?

That’s right, you’re in charge!

And if you Chief, what are you doing?

Uh… «You’re in charge»? But as?

Farther. Your people.

If they subordinatesthen what are they doing? That’s right, obey! Not bad, in general, as it should be.

And if the staff, then…? Collaborate, right? More interesting.

So what choice is «lead» and obey OR lead and cooperate.

Your choice?

At my trainings, as a rule, in the first half I use the word “subordinates” when I talk about hierarchy and power, and then, when the required level of awareness in the group is reached, I switch myself and transfer the group to a new terminological apparatus — lead and collaborate.

PS: But what to do if “Head” is indicated in the job classifier and in the staff list of the company and that’s it, nothing can be changed?

Well, it is indicated and indicated, the main thing is how you position yourself in your head and outside it, right?
