Superphosphate in compost: how to add it correctly and what is the use?

Is it possible and necessary to add superphosphate to the compost?  Misha

Superphosphate is a complex mineral fertilizer with a high content of phosphorus, nitrogen, sulfur, potassium, calcium and other trace elements. Its use allows for better development of the root system and faster fruiting in all cultivated plants without exception. This fertilizer is produced in various forms. It is powdered, granular, and may also vary in composition. There are several ways to add superphosphate to the soil: for digging in autumn or early spring, when planting – directly into the hole in the form of an aqueous solution for irrigation. It is also possible to apply it through compost.

Why Enrich Organic Supplements with Minerals

Compost is a complex organic fertilizer obtained as a result of the overheating of garden and household waste with their further processing by soil microorganisms. Good humus is quite capable of replacing manure or other organic fertilizers to feed your pet in the garden. In addition, the resulting humus is a balanced organic supplement, without excess nitrogen.

And in order to enrich the resulting mass with the necessary nutrients, you can use mineral supplements. Superphosphate will be an excellent source of phosphorus.

Phosphorus top dressing will ensure a good development of the root system, and also make the trees more protected from pests.

Keep in mind that the application rates for this supplement are different for each plant.

Which fertilizer is better to choose

The most optimal way is to add simple superphosphate to the compost, since it is this variety that is poorly soluble in water and contains phosphorus that is difficult for plants to access. It is necessary to apply top dressing when laying the compost mass, sprinkling layers with powder, at the rate of 10 grams of mineral supplement per 10 kilograms of organic matter. Further, the mass ripens as usual, and at the output you can get excellent humus, rich in easily digestible phosphorus compounds.

Double superphosphate is also commercially available. It is richer in easily digestible phosphorus and contains almost no hardly soluble elements. It is pointless to lay such a mixture in compost; it is easier to introduce it into the soil when planting plants or through watering.

Thus, you got the answer to the question of whether superphosphate can enrich the compost. And this answer is positive. Is a phosphorus additive an obligatory element, without which the humus will not ripen? No, it’s not. The choice of whether to cook humus with your own hands or manage with other organic top dressings remains with summer residents, as well as whether to add additional minerals.
