Super grapes: grape variety, description
Grapes “Super-Extra” are bred by amateur breeder Yevgeny Pavlovsky, known for his high-quality hybrids. This variety appeared by crossing “Talisman” and “Cardinal”, as well as pollination with pollen from other varieties.
Description of the grape variety “Super-Extra”
It is a large plant with good vigor. The flowers are bisexual and pollinate themselves without problems. The vines ripen quickly, and the advantage of the variety is the independence of this process from weather conditions.
Super-Extra grapes need proper pruning
The characteristics of this plant are as follows:
- Berries are yellow-green, oval in shape. Large, their average weight is 8 g. The pulp is fleshy, juicy. The taste is simple and sweet. Sugar accumulation up to 18%, acidity is 5 g / l. The skin is strong, but it does not spoil the experience while eating.
- Bunches of cylindrical shape, large. Their average weight is about 500 g, but with proper care they can grow up to 1,5 kg. The berries adhere firmly to the stalks, are located freely, sparsely, do not interfere with each other and do not deform.
- This variety is very early, for full ripening of the fruit it takes only 105 days from the moment the buds open. At the end of July, you can already enjoy the harvest, which always pleases with abundance.
The berries grow in different sizes, and this can be called the only disadvantage of the variety. Otherwise, it is good, can be stored for a long time and is adapted for transportation. If the owner does not have time to collect the fruits in time, they do not deteriorate when overexposed on the branches, they retain the density of the pulp.
Grape variety “Super-Extra”: planting and care
In order for the plant to feel good and give a big harvest, the gardener needs to know the following features:
- The shrub is highly frost-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as –24 ° C. But still it is better to cover it for the winter, especially in the middle zone and colder regions.
- Shoots need pruning, as they can produce several bunches at once, and this will lead to overloading and crushing of the berries. 25 eyes are left for the whole bush, or 6-8 for each branch.
- The variety is resistant to fungal diseases – mildew, oidium, as well as rot. But preventive spraying should be carried out 2-3 times per season.
These grapes are planted with cuttings. When landing, you need to maintain a distance between them of 1,5-2 m.
It is also good as a vaccine. For the stock choose a variety that is resistant to root phylloxera, since Super-Extra does not have this quality.
