Are you going on holiday? Make sure you have sunscreen in your suitcase. We will now tell you how to choose it.
Sunscreen Features
Despite all the data about the dangers of ultraviolet radiation, there are still people who, going on vacation, do not take sunscreen cosmetics with them. It’s hard to carry, there’s not enough space in the suitcase, the sunscreens leave white marks – there are a lot of excuses. But these are just excuses, because sun cream protects the skin from:
sunburn,
premature wrinkles,
age spots,
the development of “solar” allergies and skin cancer.
Which sunscreen to choose
There are several types of ultraviolet rays. Under the influence UVB rays the skin turns red, burns or age spots appear. True, this is only the tip of the iceberg – the weakening of skin immunity cannot be immediately seen. UVA rays are the most dangerous. They provoke photoaging processes (destruction of collagen and elastin, cell damage) and malignant degeneration of cells, or simply cancer. In addition, UVA rays are not trapped by clouds and penetrate glass. A reliable way to protect yourself from UVB and UVA rays is to wear sunglasses and use sunscreen on your face and exposed parts of your body. How to choose it?
The only way to protect yourself from the sun’s rays is with a sunscreen.
Degree of protection
SPF 50 protects by 98%.
SPF 30 – on 97%.
SPF 15 – on 93%.
As you can see, the difference between the “strongest” and the “weakest” cream is small. But still, it is essential if you are going, for example, to go out into the sun at noon.
Phototype
It is of great importance, because the lighter the skin, the worse it tolerates the sun’s rays. Determine your phototype with the test.
Dermatologist Maria Nevskaya gives the following recommendations:
if the skin never tans (that is, melanin is almost not produced), it is better to always use a cream with an SPF of at least 50;
if the skin tans, but often burns, apply cream with SPF 30-50;
finally, if the skin tans well and rarely burns, SPF 20 is allowed.
Study your phototype to choose the right sunscreen.
Skin type
matters and skin type.
For dry skin it makes sense to choose products with moisturizing ingredients – hyaluronic acid, glycerin, oils, and so on.
For normal skin moisturizing ingredients are also useful.
Composition
What can be found in sunscreen?
Of course, filters. Physical (for example, titanium dioxide) – work as a protective screen, reflecting the sun’s rays. A cream with such filters is suitable for children, people with sensitive skin. Chemical (oxybenzone, octocrylene, mexoril and others) – absorb ultraviolet rays, reducing their effect on the skin. Popular sunscreens often use both physical and chemical filters at the same time.
Antioxidants – vitamins A and E, resveratrol, green tea extract. They protect the skin from premature aging.
Minerals (eg zinc oxide) help to reduce the harmful effects of sunlight.
panthenol activates the regenerative processes in the skin, helps to restore its softness and elasticity.
Adults may well use children’s sunscreen, but not vice versa.

Application rules
To find out if you know how to use sunscreen, take our quiz.
Well, let’s not be too lazy to once again recall the important rules that must be observed in order for the sunscreen to work.
Don’t skimp. Approximately 1 teaspoon of the product should be applied to the face, a tablespoon to the chest and stomach, the same amount to the back and each arm, to the legs – 2 tablespoons each.
Don’t Forget Secluded Areas – Feet, popliteal fossae, areas under the shoulder straps of the dress, ears, lower part of the chin and hairline. We often lose sight of them, but in vain. By the way, light summer T-shirts let through about 80% of UV rays, so it doesn’t hurt to apply cream under them too.
Apply cream before going outside not after you get to the beach.
Repeat the procedure often. The protective layer needs to be renewed every 2-3 hours.
