Sunburn is damage to the skin caused by too long exposure to UV radiation. This type of burn can occur not only as a result of too intensive sunbathing, but also after using the solarium.
- Sunburn is an unpleasant consequence of unwise sunbathing, spending too much time in the bright sun or using the solarium
- This is one of the reasons why many countries ban people under the age of 18 from using the solarium
- Research shows that sunburn at a young age significantly increases the likelihood of melanoma in later years
- More current information can be found on the Onet homepage.
Sunburn – symptoms
In the first degree sunburn, redness of the skin occurs primarily. There is also pain in the irritated place. The discomfort of this type of burn usually disappears after two or three days.
Second-degree sunburn is much more severe. In addition to pain and redness, there are also blisters filled with serous fluid. The symptoms last much longer, even several weeks. This type of sunburn is most common when exposing the sun to an area that is usually sheltered for the first time in the season, such as your stomach.
Keep in mind that the first symptoms of sunburn usually begin several hours after exposure to the sun. That is why it is so important to be rational about the time we spend, for example, by the lake – while sunbathing, we may think that everything is fine, but after a few hours we will feel much worse.
For sunburns, you can try the gentle raspberry and coconut peeling with wheat germ, beeswax and vitamin E with soothing properties. Then, it is worth applying Cold Pressed Green Coffee Oil to the skin and cellulite. After peeling, it will be better absorbed into the skin, deeply moisturizing it and helping it regenerate.
Sunburn – degrees
Sunburns are classified according to its severity. We isolate:
1. XNUMXst degree sunburn – it is the one that can be found most often; refer to the outer layer of the skin, which becomes warm, red as a result of burns, and then peels off (these symptoms disappear after a few days); for delicate burns try BIO soothing propolis oil for stings and burns Propolia BeeYes with antiseptic properties;
2. second degree sunburn – in this case, they include the epidermis and the dermis; the burn causes swelling and blisters in the center of which fluid accumulates. In addition, there is partial necrosis of the epidermis. Second degree burns require consultation with a doctor who will prescribe appropriate preparations for soothing and healing wounds (the treatment itself lasts up to six weeks). For XNUMXnd degree sunburn, we recommend Betulin Suspension available at a favorable price on Medonet Market;
3rd degree sunburn – they concern not only the epidermis, but also the dermis, subcutaneous tissue and nerves; as a result of burns, the patient feels as if his skin is dead, shows no reaction to touch, which is caused by damage to the sensory receptors. These types of burns are relatively rare. A medical consultation is essential (treatment may take up to several weeks).
In order to avoid sunburn, it is worth not to expose yourself to direct rays. However, if we want our skin to look great and be beautifully tanned even without contact with the sun, it is worth reaching for:
- Natural face self-tanner in Bioherba cream – the effect is visible after 2 hours from use, and the maximum tan appears within 6 hours.
- Bioherba moisturizing bronzing cream – accelerates the tan effect, gently bronzing the complexion.
Sunburn – ways to burn
It doesn’t matter how long we stay in the sun. Each time, remember to use after-sun preparations, which you can easily get in pharmacies or drugstores. They help to moisturize the skin before the first redness appears.
Soothing redness and irritation caused by sunlight, it is worth using body mists, eg. Heavenly fragrance for face and body or Heavenly fragrance for face and body. Sensual freshness that have soothing, moisturizing properties and smell beautiful. We also recommend sea buckthorn oil for burns, frostbite, atopy and dry skin to the Herbal Island.
If you notice the first symptoms of sunburn in the form of redness or burning, do not delay. First of all, you need to hide in the shade and then cool the burned place. Thanks to this, we will stop the process of tissue damage. A cool shower will work well, and if it is not possible, a cold compress of fresh water. This is important because burns often happen at the seaside, and it is not a very good idea to cover burns with salt water.
The next step should be to cover the sunburn with a specially designed ointment or cream. Such a measure should contain allantoin and D-panthenol. We especially recommend the convenient PanTenol foam – panthenol 10% and allantoin, which you can buy at Medonet Market at a promotional price. For the next few days, we regularly lubricate the irritated area and protect it from the sun and high temperatures (e.g. avoid a hot bath). The pharmacy also offers preparations containing onion and garlic extract, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties (prevent the formation of burn exudates). In addition, for mild first-degree burns, kefir, sour milk or yogurt compresses are recommended, which not only moisturize the skin and prevent blisters, but also provide immediate relief.
For sunburns, we recommend a deeply moisturizing preparation for children and adults – Mediskin Aqua Cream for diaper rash and bedsores, which is widely used in the care of irritated skin.
In the case of second degree sunburn, blisters appear, e.g. after falling asleep in the sun, under no circumstances should they be pierced. Serum fluid contained in the bladder is the body’s natural mechanism to protect the damaged area. If we pierce it, we open the door to contamination. In the case of second and third degree burns, consultation with a doctor is necessary, especially when symptoms such as high temperature, dizziness or nausea are added. In very severe burns, a dressing with silver salt of sulfadiazine, sulfathiazole or bacitracin is used.
Severe burn pain can be relieved with paracetamol or ibuprofen. For the burns themselves, it is worth using an infusion prepared on the basis of chamomile flowers.
Important! Do not lubricate the irritation after sunbathing too much, because such preparations stop the heat from the skin being dissipated, which further aggravates the pain.
It is worth reaching for Panthenol products that have cooling and pain-relieving properties:
- Panthenol 5% for sun and thermal burns,
- Emulsion with vitamin E for the whole Panthenol Family.
Try a burn gel
Protection against sunburn
As with most injuries, prevention is better than cure for sunburn. In summer, you cannot forget about creams with a UV filter. They can be bought not only in pharmacies, but also in drugstores and online stores, and in summer they are often available at bathing beaches or on beaches. To avoid sunburn, apply the cream 30 minutes before sun exposure. The cream with a UV filter should be remembered not only by people who sunbathe or by the water, but also by everyone working in gardens and allotments. At Medonet Market you can order tanning cosmetics, which are available at attractive prices.
For burns, it is worth using Sofargen spray for wounds and burns, which is convenient to use, inhibits the multiplication of bacteria and reduces irritation.
In addition, to avoid sunburn, you should:
- avoid exposure to the sun between 10.00 am and 14.00 pm;
- remember to drink plenty of water in hot weather;
- protect the head when in the sun;
- check whether the cosmetics used by us are not expired (UV preparations bought a year ago should be thrown into the trash);
- find out if the preparations taken are not a contraindication to sunbathing.
One of the methods of prevention against skin cancer is a dermatological examination of the skin, carried out after the holiday / holiday season. Especially people who suffer from sunburn during rest / work should be tested. The presence of pigmented nevi on the body is also an indication for the examination. Thanks to the dermatoscopy, it is possible to determine if the moles are turning into something more dangerous. Early diagnosis enables the cancer to be cured at an early stage of the disease.
