Sumamed forte is a macrolide antibiotic that prevents bacteria from growing and reproducing. Thanks to its properties, it shortens the treatment period by up to 5 days. The indications for administration of Sumamed forte are bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active substance, i.e. azithromycin.
Sumamed forte is an antibiotic recommended for the treatment of, among others, upper respiratory tract infections or acute otitis media. When should Sumamed forte be administered and what precautions should be taken?
Sumamed forte – action
Sumamed forte is an antibacterial drug. It is intended for general use. Sumamed forte is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.
The active substance of Sumamed forte is azithromycin. This substance blocks bacterial ribosomes, which are cellular structures needed for protein synthesis. As a result, bacteria stop growing and multiplying. Sumamed forte is well absorbed and quickly reaches the tissues. The active substance remains in the infected tissues in high concentration for a long time, therefore the treatment process can be shortened by as much as 1-5 days.
Sumamed forte – indications

Sumamed forte – precautions
Some diseases are contraindications to the use of Sumamed forte or require additional check-ups both before and during the administration of the antibiotic.
During treatment with Sumamed forte, as with other macrolide antibiotics, prolongation of the QT interval visible during ECG and cardiac dysfunction may occur.
If Sumamed forte is administered during the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, tests for co-infection with syphilis should usually be performed. Antibiotics can lead to the development of difficult-to-treat bacteria and fungi, and thus the development of new infections. A medical consultation is then necessary.
If the infections recur, it is often necessary to change the antibiotic because there is no research on the safety and effectiveness of Sumamed forte in the case of prolonged use.
Caution should also be exercised when using Sumamed in people with neurological and mental disorders. It cannot be used to treat infected burn wounds.
