Sulfarinol

Sulfarinol is a drug used in family medicine and otolaryngology. It affects the respiratory system, eliminating congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa. Sulfarinol is available over the counter as nasal drops.

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or sulfonamides,
  2. angle-closure glaucoma,
  3. dry rhinitis,
  4. do not use in children under 12 years of age.

  2. If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3-5 days, consult a doctor; Using the drug for a longer period than recommended or using it too frequently may lead to secondary rhinitis and its irreversible damage.
  3. Do not use in children under 12 years of age.

  5. The use of the preparation requires special care and consultation with a doctor in the case of: treatment with MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants; bronchial asthma; cardiovascular diseases (e.g., ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, arterial hypertension); diabetes; overactive thyroid gland; pheochromocytoma; prostatic hyperplasia; hardening of the arteries of the brain; the elderly.
  6. Local pain, no improvement, intensification of local epithelial lesions and epithelial bleeding are indications for treatment discontinuation.
  7. The preparation should not be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women due to the lack of data on the safety of its use; the preparation may be used during this period only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary, when, in the doctor’s opinion, the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the child.
  8. There are no studies on the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive motor vehicles; people driving motor vehicles should be especially careful as the drug may cause side effects that may impair psychophysical fitness (dizziness and headaches).
  1. Do not use with MAO inhibitors (risk of hypertensive crisis) or tricyclic antidepressants (risk of increased spasm of blood vessels).
  1. Local side effects may occur: sneezing, stinging pain in the nose, burning sensation, increased discharge from the nose.
  2. Local allergic symptoms (skin rash, swelling of the lips) may occur in the case of using the drug (despite contraindications) in people allergic to sulfa drugs or in children under 12 years of age.
  3. Systemic effects may very rarely occur: increased heart rate, increase in blood pressure, palpitations, headache and dizziness, nausea, somnolence, asthenia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
