Subtle question: threading

Fashion for thick beautiful eyebrows once came from Asian women. And thanks to them, eyebrow correction with a thread – threading – became popular. The editors of Healthy-Food dealt with the intricacies of the procedure.

What is threading?

In Asia, girls are taught to work with thread from their youth, this is a traditional skill. Today, threading is very popular in Europe, in many beauty salons and brow studios, eyebrow threading is almost the most popular procedure besides wax and, of course, the classic correction with tweezers.

Threading is a type of hair removal using a thread: during the procedure, the folded thread is pulled quite strongly, and the resulting loop is thrown over the hairs and pulls them out with a sharp movement, and immediately with the root. Thus, you can remove hair on the face (above the upper lip, eyebrows, vellus) and in general on any other part of the body where fine hairs grow.

Hair removal with a thread, according to experts, is the safest method from the point of view of hygiene for getting rid of excess hair and, in particular, for eyebrow correction, since a new thread is cut off for each new procedure, that is, it is used once.

Pros and cons of thread hair removal

For those who are thinking about eyebrow threading or facial threading, we will try to tell you what to prepare for when going for the procedure.

Our expert Maria Nevskaya believes that the technique of eyebrow correction (and not only them) with a thread has obvious pros and cons. Let’s list the benefits first.

  1. Efficiency.

  2. Even the lightest and most imperceptible hairs are removed.

  3. Unlike other methods of hair removal, threading can effectively remove hair of any thickness and length, including vellus, the thinnest.

  4. High removal rate. Everything about everything will take no more than 10 minutes. During operation, the loop captures several hairs at once, and this significantly increases the treated area.

  5. Threading the upper lip (antennae above the upper lip) or eyebrows is a safe procedure, without side effects: the likelihood of ingrown hairs and the occurrence of folliculitis is reduced to zero.

  6. Eyebrow threading is suitable for sensitive skin.

  7. Trading can be done at home, as this technique is easy to master by watching training videos on the Internet.

  8. The procedure is economical. No need to buy anything special – no additional device is required for trading. A master or you at home will only need a strong thread (silk, nylon or cotton) and a certain skill.

But every coin has two sides. Let’s talk about the disadvantages of the procedure.

  1. Soreness. If you know for sure that you have a low pain threshold, then you should get ready for the fact that eyebrow and face threading can be a rather unpleasant procedure. But here I want to remind you that the soreness passes very quickly. But the result remains. And it is unlikely that trading can be called a more unpleasant procedure than plucking with tweezers. Quite the contrary, because at least the process is faster.

  2. To perform the procedure, the experience and accuracy of the master are required. If you are going to do the procedure in the salon for the first time, pay attention to the reviews.

  3. When epilating the upper lip with a thread, threading the eyebrows or another area, sessions are carried out on average once a month.

  4. For owners of very thick eyebrows, this is not very pleasant information – the procedure can be more painful, and its effectiveness is reduced.

What parts of the skin can be depilated with a thread?

Typically, threading is used to correct eyebrows and vellus hairs on the face. However, with the help of a cosmetic thread, you can remove excess vegetation on any part of the body:
  • on hands;

  • in the bikini area;

  • along the hairline on the forehead;

  • above the upper lip;

  • in the armpits;

  • on the legs;

  • on the stomach.

The process does not take much time, but the result can be enjoyed from two weeks to a month.

What threads are used for threading

Strong thin threads are suitable for threading. In beauty salons and brow bars, they usually use Arabic, nylon or silk (all of them are cosmetic) threads. For home use, durable cotton is also suitable. The main condition is that the length of the thread should be about 50 cm.

Synthetic threads are not suitable, because during manipulation they can stretch, become electrified and, as practice shows, do not allow you to create the necessary strong tension in order to pull out the hairs the first time.

Preparing the skin for threading

If you decide to trade, we advise you to come to a beauty salon for the first time to see how the whole process goes.

At home, we recommend that you adhere to the following rules:

  1. Before the procedure, be sure to clean the skin with foam, mousse or washing gel.

  2. It is advisable to slightly steam the intended treatment area before the procedure. You can just apply a hot towel for a few minutes.

  3. Set up a good magnifying mirror in front of you and make yourself comfortable.

  4. The thread must be clean.

  5. Act carefully and without haste.

How to do trading at home?

We tell you how to proceed.

  1. Take a thread of about 50-55 cm and tie knots on both sides.

  2. Twist the thread so that you get a figure eight (it will take about 8-10 twists). You should get 2 rings. The trick of trading is that the fingers on one hand should be connected, and on the other they should be separated.

  3. Now insert your index finger and thumb into each loop.

  4. Where the loop is smaller, try to capture the hairs you intend to remove.

  5. Move from the bridge of the nose to the temples, removing excess hair, working with your fingers so that they move apart sharply, and the junction of the rings goes up, that is, so that the loop grabs and pulls out the hairs.

  6. When all the manipulations are completed, wipe the skin with a tonic and apply a soothing or any nourishing or moisturizing cream.

Immediately after trading, we recommend moisturizing the skin and applying a soothing agent to it. It can be a cream, lotion or gel for the face. We advise you to choose a product that is suitable for sensitive skin.

Summary results

What is threading?

Threading is a method of removing hairs with a thread, most often used as a method of eyebrow correction. Unnecessary vegetation is removed from the root. Although the method is relatively painful, it is very effective – new hair grows no earlier than in 3-4 weeks.

What is the main advantage of trading?

It is difficult to isolate the most important plus of this type of hair removal. We can list obvious pluses.

  1. With the help of threading, you can remove hairs of any thickness and length, including vellus. This is the main difference between threading and other depilation methods.

  2. The procedure is very fast: the loop captures several hairs at once, and they are removed with one movement.

  3. Hygienic and safe: the thread is used once.

  4. Suitable for sensitive skin.

Are there any contraindications for trading?

Like any other procedure, of course, they are. The consequences of thread threading on the face can be dangerous if there are wounds or cuts, neoplasms and moles at the treatment site. It is also better to refuse the procedure if there is a temperature. You should not make a correction with a thread for a cold or other infection. Due to the disease, the pain threshold may be lowered.
