Researchers from the Silent Spring Institute, which deals with the impact of everyday products on women’s health, have checked whether the chemical compounds in such products can affect the development of breast cancer. The results are food for thought.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignant neoplasm in women. Its development is influenced by the level of estrogens and progesterone. As the levels of these hormones increase, the risk of developing the disease also increases. It is known that certain medications can increase the risk of developing the disease. Now researchers from the Silent Spring Institute have checked whether the substances in everyday products can also have an impact.
Which substances increase the risk of developing breast cancer?
Okazuje się, że aż 296 związków chemicznych w produktach codziennego użytku może zwiększać ryzyko raka piersi.
Ruthann Rudel and Bethsaid Cardon in a study published in the journal “Environmental Health Perspectives” analyze over 2 compounds selected by the ToxCast program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

W analizie z użyciem linii komórkowych aż 296 z badanych związków chemicznych prowadziło do wzrostu poziomu estradiolu (jeden z estrogenów) albo progesteronu, a 71 z nich — obu hormonów jednocześnie.
The results showed that, paradoxically, most of the chemicals that affect female hormones are found in pesticides, foods, and manufactured goods, not drugs. Food additives and contaminated drinking water are the most dangerous.

According to WHO data, only 2020 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2,3, and 685 thousand women. the sick died. In the case of this cancer, prevention is extremely important, because the treatment of breast cancer can be very effective.
