The drug is used in hormone replacement therapy. Estrofem contains the female hormone estradiol. It is intended for postmenopausal women, especially those after hysterectomy, i.e. after removal of the uterus, but who do not require complex hormone therapy. The preparation relieves the symptoms of menopause.

The active substance of the drug – Estrofem

The active substance is estradiol, whose main task is to replace estrogen deficiency in women after menopause.

Taking and dosage of Estrofem

Estrofem tablets are taken orally both with and without a meal. The drug cannot be used during pregnancy.

The drug should be used according to the doctor’s instructions.

In women with a removed uterus, use of the drug starts on any day. One tablet is taken daily, at about the same time each day. After taking 28 tablets from the package, the next one starts without any interruption in use.

Your doctor will prescribe the lowest dose possible for the shortest duration.

Contraindications to the use of Estrofem

Estrofem cannot be used in patients who are allergic to estradiol or any other ingredient of the drug. It is not used in patients who have or have had breast cancer or estrogen-dependent cancer.

The drug cannot be used by patients with abnormal vaginal bleeding or excessive growth of the uterine body.

Estrofem cannot be used by patients with blood coagulation disorders, ischemic heart disease or after myocardial infarction.

Liver disease and a rare blood disease – porphyria are also contraindications.

If you suspect that you are pregnant while taking this medicine, contact your doctor immediately.

It is also not advisable to use the drug during breastfeeding.

Estrofem – side effects and side effects

As with other medications, Estrofem can cause adverse side effects. These include: breast cancer, endometrial hyperplasia or cancer, ovarian cancer, thromboembolism, and coronary artery disease. Strokes may occur.

If the use of the drug is started after the age of 65, there may be a loss of cognitive functions and a deterioration of the memory process.

Headaches, abdominal pain, depression, nausea, fluid retention and weight gain may occur in women using Estrofem. Uncommon but possible anaphylactic shock, dizziness, migraines, strokes, hair loss and an increase in blood pressure.

Very rarely, heart attacks, heart failure, venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism occur. There are diseases of the gallbladder, vaginal mycoses, insomnia, epilepsy, libido disorders, asthma, and the risk of dementia increases.
