Stroke: gestures that save

Stroke (Stroke) can be caused by a blocked artery (atherosclerosis), high blood pressure, or a ruptured artery in the brain. It is linked to an insufficient supply of oxygen or blood to the brain.

Transient ischemic attack (TIA) may be a sign of a potential stroke. It has the same signs and symptoms as stroke. In the case of TIA, the signs may go away on their own, within 20 minutes of onset.

Symptoms of stroke or TIA

  • Sagging part of the face;
  • Tingling sensation in part of the face, arm or leg;
  • Sudden difficulty speaking (aphasia);
  • Cloudy, blurry, double vision, or complete loss of vision in one eye;
  • Unusual, intense and sudden headache;
  • Dizziness, unsteadiness, fainting.

How to react ?

  • Call for help;
  • Make sure the victim’s airway remains open
  • Check the vital signs;
  • Place the victim in a comfortable position or in a safe side position with the paralyzed side up.
