“Queen”: description of the strawberry variety
This plant is perfectly adapted to the conditions of the middle lane. This is why she is loved by summer residents, but not only. She has other advantages:
- It is considered a large-fruited variety, the average weight of one berry is 22 g;
- Its yield is relatively high, although there are also higher-yielding representatives. On average, it is possible to collect up to 500 g of berries from one bush;
- It can survive a frosty winter normally, but still needs a protective shelter for this time;
- Watering is necessary for abundant fruiting. In case of drought, it will not die, but the yield will be noticeably less;
- The berries ripen by mid-June. Fruiting twice a season, the harvest ends in August.
In the photo of the “Tsaritsa” strawberry, you can see that it grows in small, neat bushes with dense dark green leaves. This variety is versatile in use. It is good fresh, for making desserts and preparations for the winter. Also, berries can be frozen, they will not lose their qualities from this.
The best time for planting is spring, the seedlings take root more easily during this period. The soil is prepared in advance, digging it up with humus, it will need about a bucket per 1 sq. m.To obtain a high-quality harvest, it is worth following these recommendations:
- We choose an open place for planting, without the slightest shade;
- “Tsarina” feels good on loamy and sandy soils. The soil should be loose and non-acidic;
- For planting, we make a furrow about 18 cm deep, insert seedlings into it at a distance of 20 cm from each other. The roots must be spread and covered with earth;
- We compact the soil around the stem, water each hole with 3 liters of water;
- Lay mulch on top – sawdust or dry grass;
- Avoid planting strawberries next to tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers and other plants of the nightshade family. Such a neighborhood can lead to disease and the spread of pests.
This variety is unpretentious, but with good care it responds with a large harvest. It tolerates transportation well, so it is often planted on a production scale. For excellent growth and development of fruits, regular loosening of the soil, weed control, and drip irrigation are desirable.
