Strawberry Queen Elizabeth: variety description

Strawberry “Queen Elizabeth” belongs to the remontant varieties, it bears fruit several times a year. The variety confirms its regal name with large sweet berries, the weight of which can reach 50 grams. With good care, you can pick up to 2 kilograms of berries from the bush.

Description of the strawberry variety “Queen Elizabeth”

The Queen Elizabeth strawberry owes its origin to the English breeder Ken Muir. The variety came to Russia in 2000 and immediately fell in love with gardeners for its unpretentious cultivation, excellent berry taste and high yield.

Queen Elizabeth Strawberry Originated in England

Fruiting occurs in several stages. The first crop is harvested in early June, the second in July, and the third in late August. With proper care, the berries ripen large, up to 50 grams, as in the photo of the “Queen Elizabeth” strawberry variety

The bushes grow powerful and spreading, and the harvest is truly royal. The berries are large, with a pleasant, pronounced strawberry flavor and aroma, but if the weather is rainy and cloudy, the strawberry becomes sour.

The advantage of the variety is its resistance to late blight, powdery mildew, and brown spot. To maintain abundant fruiting, careful care and timely renewal of plantings are necessary.

Successful strawberry cultivation begins with choosing a suitable planting site. The plant does not tolerate even a little shading; it needs the sun for good fruiting. The soil should be fertile, permeable, with neutral acidity.

The best time to plant seedlings in open ground is the end of May or August. The bushes planted in May are cut off the mustache and flower stalks so that they gain strength for fruiting next year

Water the plants thoroughly, but infrequently, in hot weather once every 3 days. During flowering, water cannot be poured on top of the bush, the berries can grow ugly.

You need to feed the strawberries as needed, especially when the leaves become smaller and lighter. Planned feeding is carried out three times: in the spring, as soon as the leaves begin to grow; before budding and after fruiting in September. In early spring, strawberries are fertilized with a urea solution, before flowering with a mullein solution, and in the fall with potassium sulfate and superphosphate. You can use specialized complex fertilizers for feeding. For the winter, plants are covered with agrofibre or spruce branches.

Strawberry “Queen Elizabeth” always deserves the most flattering reviews about the taste of berries and the amount of harvest. The variety bears fruit several times a year, so it needs careful care, feeding and watering.
