Not so long ago, a new berry plant appeared. The remontant variety of Murano strawberries, according to the description, reviews of gardeners, can become a serious competitor on plantations. This neutral day plant with abundant and long fruiting is becoming increasingly popular. The features of growing strawberries of the Murano variety will be discussed in the article.
Inference history
The Murano strawberry variety is a product of Italian selection. It was developed in 2005 from the original generic forms R6R1-26 and A030-12. The copyright holder is Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti. For several years, trials of a variety of remontant strawberries were carried out in European countries. A patent for the plant was issued in 2012.
During the tests, the Murano strawberry proved to be worthy not only in the open field, but also with a lack of lighting in a continental climate, including in various regions of Our Country.
For growing, you can use any conditions:
- open and protected ground;
- tunnels;
- hydroponics;
- multilevel systems.
Description
The remontant Murano strawberry belongs to the varieties of the neutral day. Bushes are compact and upright. The plant is medium-sized, up to 30 cm high, 45-50 cm in diameter. The leaves are large, rich green, there are few of them. There are only 2-3 mustaches on Murano strawberries, but they are viable, they take root themselves.
Peduncles powerful with a large number of buds. They are located just above the outlet. Flowers with 5-6 white petals stand out for their size: about 3,7 cm in diameter. It takes about a month from the beginning of flowering to picking berries.
Fruits of the correct conical shape, slightly elongated. The average weight of berries, declared by the originators of the Murano strawberry variety, is from 20 to 25 g, but with proper agricultural practices, there are specimens weighing 35 grams or more.
Up to 1100 g of sweet fruits are harvested from one bush during the season. A feature of the fruiting of this variety is some shrinking of the berries by the end of the growing season, but it is insignificant. It does not affect the taste and product characteristics in any way.
Berries with shiny glossy bright red skin. This is clearly visible in the photo. The pulp is juicy, dense, fleshy, with a pronounced aroma.
The transportability of Murano berries is high, for which it is especially appreciated by farmers who grow strawberries for sale.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
In addition to the description and characteristics when choosing strawberries, gardeners pay attention to the pros and cons of the variety. Murano has much more advantages than disadvantages. The proof is in the table.

Neutral Fruiting Variety Murano:
Methods of reproduction
A feature of the remontant strawberry of the Murano variety is the possibility of reproduction by all known methods:
- mustache;
- division of the bush;
- seeds.
Mustache
The formation of Murano strawberries is insufficient, therefore, when using this method, you need to root them in time. Mustaches can be rooted directly in the ground, as in the photo below. Many gardeners advise that the mustache that appears should be immediately placed in cups in order to separate them from the mother bush as soon as possible. In this case, reproduction will not greatly affect the fruiting of strawberries.
By dividing the bush
The Murano strawberry variety is interesting in that the bush grows well, new rosettes immediately throw out flower stalks. By the time of reproduction, the bushes can be divided into parts. Each delenka should have a good heart and a developed root system. By dividing the bush, strawberries are propagated after fruiting is completed. As a rule, the peak of work falls on the fall.
But many gardeners who have been growing a remontant variety for several years believe that this is unjustified: strawberries give a good harvest for 3 and 4 years.
Cultivation from seeds
The seed method of propagation of Murano strawberries is also acceptable, but it is more laborious. Seeds should be sown in late January-early February. Then take care of the seedlings. But the main difficulty is not even in the tightness of the seeds, but in the lack of light. Young seedlings, despite the fact that the Murano variety belongs to neutral day plants, will still have to be illuminated with special fitolamps at first.
Landing
From the correct planting of strawberries of the Murano variety depends on its further development and yield.
How to choose seedlings
Choosing seedlings is not an easy task. If Murano strawberry bushes are already growing on your site, then you can fill the beds with your own plants. If the plant is purchased in nurseries or specialized stores, you need to carefully look at them. The fact is, strawberry seedlings of this variety are not cheap.
There are rules for choosing seedlings:
- Seedlings must have at least three true green leaves and a flexible root system.
- Roots should not be less than 7 cm long and 6-8 mm in diameter.
Site selection and preparation of soil
The Murano strawberry variety prefers neutral soil. Acidic and wetlands are not suitable for growing. Seedlings are planted on a hill so that the groundwater is not higher than 1,5 meters. Only in this case, you can get healthy plants with abundant fruiting.
Landing scheme
Judging by the description, Murano bushes are compact, so it is not necessary to leave large gaps between them. You can plant plants in one or two lines. Strawberries are planted according to the scheme 30×30 cm, although 25 cm is also possible.
Care
No special knowledge and skills are required when caring for Murano strawberries. All agrotechnical measures are exactly the same as for other representatives of this culture.
Spring period
In the spring, when the plants are just waking up, old leaves are removed and water-charging watering is carried out. At the same time, strawberries are fed with nitrogen-containing fertilizers.
Watering and mulching
The originators of the variety, Italian breeders, indicate that Murano strawberries are heat-resistant, easily tolerate short-term heat. But to preserve moisture in the soil and its friability, it is advised to mulch the root zone of the plant with a special mulching agrofabric or straw. In addition, in extreme heat, landings must be shaded.
Murano strawberries should be watered moderately, as excess moisture leads to the death of the root system. At the time of fruiting, you need to water more often. Once a week, half a bucket of water is poured under the bush.
Feeding
Murano strawberries are fed several times per season, using root and foliar feeds:
- Early spring need for nitrogen fertilizers.
- When the first flowers appear, then every 21-28 days the plants are watered over the leaves with mineral complexes containing potassium, phosphorus, manganese, and iron.
- After harvesting, before preparing for winter, mineral complexes containing phosphorus and potassium are added.

Preparation for winter
Before sheltering strawberries, sanitary cleaning and top dressing are carried out. Bushes must be mulched to prevent freezing of the root system. Since the Murano variety is a heat-loving plant, in regions with severe frosts, plantings are covered with agrofiber. From above, if necessary, pour a layer of earth.
Diseases and methods of struggle
Pests and ways to deal with them
vermin | Evidence | Control measures | Prevention |
Weevil | Flowers open but no ovary | For spraying plantings, use Karbofos, Aktellik, Corsair or Zolon |
|
Slugs | Damaged leaves, berries, visible slippery trail | treat plantings with Groza, Meta | Sprinkle superphosphate or potassium salt around the bushes. Spray the plants with a salt solution |
Nematode | Yellowing and curly leaves, slow growing plants, ugly berries | Treatment with Lindane, Phosphamtide, Heterophos If nothing helps, the destruction of plants and burning | Fertilize the beds with manure, before planting, lower the seedlings into hot water at a temperature of 50 degrees |
Ants | Damage the root system, planting aphids on strawberry plantings | Spraying plants and soil with Fitoverm, Aktara, Spark preparations | Pour with a solution of boric acid, infusion of garlic, yeast |
Strawberry mite | Leaves shrink, curl, berries dry out | Infected bushes must be removed |
|
Features of growing in pots
According to the description and characteristics, Murano strawberries do not suffer from a lack of light. That is why the plant can be planted in pots and grown on windows, balconies, terraces.
Conclusion
The Italian variety of remontant strawberries has gained well-deserved popularity among gardeners. This should not be surprising. The plant is unpretentious, gives an excellent harvest in any climatic conditions. The main thing is to properly care for it, adhere to agricultural standards.
