Strawberry Margarita – an alcoholic cocktail with a strength of 22-23% vol. with a refreshing berry flavor, the sweetness of which can be adjusted with syrup or sugar to your liking. Unlike the classic Margarita, the strawberry variation is softer and more aromatic, which is why it is considered more of a feminine cocktail. For cooking at home you need a blender.
Historical information
Presumably, the Margarita cocktail appeared in Mexico in the 30s of the XX century, but the author of the recipe is unknown. The cocktail came to the USA thanks to the tequila manufacturer Jose Cuervo, who popularized the drink among Americans, including through the preparation of original cocktails that the local public was unfamiliar with.
Over time, variations (twists) on the classic recipe appeared. One of the most popular twists is the Strawberry Margarita. The inventor of this recipe and the time of the appearance of the drink are also not preserved.
There is only one drawback of a cocktail – seasonality. Fragrant ripe strawberries are not always available, and with frozen or greenhouse, the result is worse.
Strawberry Margarita Recipe
Composition and proportions:
- tequila (silver) – 60 ml;
- orange liqueur (clear) – 30 ml;
- lime – 1 half;
- strawberries – 5-6 pieces;
- sugar or strawberry syrup – up to 20 g (to taste);
- ice cubes – 100 g.
Silver (clear) tequila of any brand is suitable, preferably with 100% agave alcohol content. As a liquor, you can take Cointreau or Triple Sec, the difference will not be noticeable. If the strawberries are not sweet or have a weak aroma, you can additionally sweeten the cocktail with strawberry syrup (optimal) or sugar (preferably cane), this is very true for frozen strawberries.
Preparation
1. Chill a bowl-shaped glass for serving (named after the cocktail Margarita) with ice or in the refrigerator. If desired, make a sugar border – grease the rim of the glass with water or lime juice, then lower the glass into granulated sugar and turn.
2. Mix ice, strawberries, tequila and orange liqueur in a blender. Add sugar or syrup, then squeeze the juice from half a lime. Beat until smooth.
3. Pour the mixture into a serving glass. Garnish the finished cocktail with half a strawberry on a skewer or a lime wedge. Serve with a straw.
