Description of the strawberry variety “Lord”
This is a large berry variety. One berry weighs 70−90 g. Fruits are blunt-conical in shape with a sweet and sour taste and delicate aroma, bright red in color.
Strawberry “Lord” frost resistant
“Lord” begins to bear fruit in the 3rd year after planting and produces crops for 10 years. From 4 to 7 years, the yield increases, and then it decreases. This variety is late-ripening, yields from late June to mid-July.
The main advantages of strawberries:
- fruits are resistant to rot and strawberry mites;
- tolerates transportation well;
- gives high yields: up to 3 kg of berries are harvested from one bush per season;
- it reproduces well with a mustache;
- easily tolerates frost.
Such strawberries are grown both in summer cottages and in industrial production. It has all the necessary qualities for mass production and sale.
But this variety has disadvantages that you need to consider if you are going to grow it:
- a mustache grows quickly on strawberries, they often need to be cut off;
- it is demanding for watering, and due to frequent rains and dampness it begins to rot;
- peduncles during fruiting must be tied up so that the fruits do not lie on the ground.
Without proper care, the berries will not grow large and sweet. To get a good harvest, strawberries need to be given due attention.
Rules for planting strawberries “Lord”
To properly plant the “Lord” strawberry shown in the photo, you must take into account the following features:
- for the berries to be sweet, the bushes should be planted on a flat, sunny place or on a southwestern slope;
- strawberries should be planted at intervals of at least 60 cm from each other due to the large size of berries and bushes.
The most fertile soil for the “Lord” will be a land rich in humus and organic fertilizers. You can cook it yourself: mix autumn foliage with manure, pour it into a compost pit mixed with soil and fill it with water.
The garden bed is prepared in a week: in addition to fertilizer, sawdust, humus, peat are added to the dug soil. It is disinfected from pests with an ammonia solution.
Before planting, do not fill the soil, it should be slightly damp
You can plant strawberries under plastic wrap. To do this, cut the plastic wrap in the place where you plan to plant the strawberry bushes. Spread it on the garden bed, and plant the strawberries so that the green part remains on top of the film. This makes it easier to care for and harvest strawberries.
The strawberry garden should be weeded regularly and the mustache should be removed from the bushes. The soil should not dry out and should be kept slightly moist.
The variety requires special conditions of detention. And so that you do not have to complain that the berries are small, unsweetened and rot, you must not make mistakes in caring for the plant and follow all the tips and rules.
