A bit of history
Strawberry Elsanta is a product of Dutch selection. The variety is relatively young, it was created in the late 90s of the last century. His parents were two varieties – Gorella and Holiday. Its characteristics are reference for this crop, it measures the yield of strawberries.
Variety description
It is difficult to imagine Elsanta strawberries without a description of the variety, photos and reviews of gardeners. As the popularity of the variety grows, you need to know what it is:
- The bushes are powerful, with medium leafiness, upright. Leaves with a noticeable fluff are large, juicy green, with a sheen. They are slightly bent inwards. The wrinkling of the leaves is high.
- Elsanta’s strawberries can be recognized by their thick, tall peduncles located flush with the foliage. The inflorescence produces many white flowers with a bright yellow center. Flowers of different sizes.
- The Elsanta strawberry variety has large berries up to 50 grams. They are red and shiny. They have the shape of a cone, a cup of medium size. The inside is sweet, with a slight sourness (sugar -7,3%, acids – 0.77%).
- Inside the berries are without voids, dense, crispy. It’s the crunch that some people don’t like.
- There are many seeds on the berry, they are yellow, clearly visible on the fruits.
- In the Elsanta variety, the stem comes off easily without damaging the berry.
- In addition to a large number of peduncles, the variety stands out for its ability to produce a large number of mustaches. Strawberry Elsanta has practically no cons.
- Elsanta strawberries are resistant to many of the plant’s diseases, but can be affected by root rot and powdery mildew.
- The culture is responsive to heat and sufficient moisture. Dry hot weather and insufficient watering leads to a decrease in the size of the berry, which negatively affects the yield.
- It can be grown outdoors, but the best returns are in greenhouses or greenhouses.
- The variety is not frost-resistant, therefore it requires shelter for the winter.
- It is zoned in many regions of the central strip of Our Country, in Ukraine, in Belarus.
The only drawback of the variety is that the bushes need to be replaced after three years.

Productive properties
Many gardeners are interested in the question of remontance of the Elsanta variety. We note right away that it does not belong to the remontant, although this does not make it less attractive:
- The variety is high-yielding, subject to the rules of agricultural technology, from one bush you can collect up to one and a half kilograms of juicy fragrant products, and from one hectare up to 7000 kg. That is why the Elsinore strawberry (sometimes called it) is grown on an industrial scale.
- Dutch strawberries can be stored in the room for more than 3 days, and in the refrigerator for up to 5 days without losing their qualities.
- The presentation of the berries is not lost during long-term transportation, as gardeners write in reviews.
- Elsanta strawberries are suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of compotes, jams, marmalades, and for freezing. After thawing does not lose shape.
Features of agricultural technology
Landing
When planting seedlings of the Elsanta variety, the possibility of strawberry growth should be taken into account. It can be planted in two lanes with a distance between bushes of at least 25 cm, and row spacing up to 40-45 cm.
As a rule, experienced gardeners plant a variety in a new place in September. Judging by the reviews, larger berries ripen on autumn planting strawberries. The soil is well shed, holes are prepared. Seedlings are compressed after planting. If this is not done, then the roots may be on the surface.
This is not a simple statement. After all, gardeners have been breeding this variety for more than a dozen years. According to their reviews, overfed strawberries become less viable. While the bushes planted without top dressing perfectly tolerate the heat. It is better to feed three-year-old plants. They will work for the last year, and they need recharge.

Features of watering
Since the Elsinore strawberry belongs to varieties with low drought tolerance, it is demanding on watering. After planting, seedlings should be watered every evening for 30 days. Then once a week. During fruiting, the soil should not be allowed to dry out. When there is heat, the amount of water per square meter increases to 10 liters. Garden strawberries respond well to drip irrigation.
All other agricultural practices, according to gardeners with extensive experience in growing strawberries, are no different: loosening, weeding, pest control, disease prevention.
In general, Elsanta strawberries have positive reviews from gardeners. Such plants need to have on the site at least for a change.
Wintering
Strawberry Elsanta will not be able to winter without shelter even in the southern regions of Our Country. Arcs are pulled over the bed, a layer of straw or peat is poured, and a dense non-woven material is placed on top.
You need to water the bushes of garden strawberries to the very shelter. In winter, the bushes should leave trimmed and well mulched. While leaf pruning is controversial, according to many gardeners, this procedure is necessary to increase the yield of Elsinore strawberries next year. You need to cut only the leaves, leaving the petioles so as not to damage the growing point. The photo shows how to do it right.
Plants are covered only with the onset of frost so that strawberries have enough time to harden.
