According to this year’s analyzes, the infamous first place in the Dirty Dozen was precisely strawberry. It was shown that in one third of the tested strawberry servings there were residues of more than 10 pesticides, in one sample they were found even 22, and 99% of the tested samples were contaminated with at least one the type of pesticide. Strawberries were on this list not only because of the number of pesticides used for their cultivation, but also by the fact that in the case of of these fruits, residues are still measurable after harvesting, pre-rinsing and washing immediately before consumption.

Pesticides are a silent killer

These are funds that accumulate in the body and unfortunately not they make themselves felt immediately after consuming contaminated products. Only after years, they show mutagenic effects, resulting in neoplasms or disorders prenatal development. Of course, there are also substances for human beings are not harmful enough, but most pesticides can increase risk of cancer, fertility problems, as well as nature problems endocrine or neurological. This is the price we pay for fruit not very much perishable, available for longer periods of the year and more inviting visually.

How to prevent the accumulation of pesticides in the body and at the same time take advantage of the strawberry season?

First of all, it is worth choosing fruit from local farmers, in the market nearby, not in the supermarket. Shopping from a private person allows to familiarize yourself with the issue of fertilizing fruit, so let’s use this occasion and let us ask questions. The very appearance of organic fruits is different from these stuffed with pesticides – they are uneven, not identical, sometimes it will happen fruit with a less fresh stalk or slightly crumpled. It’s nothing wrong, on the contrary – this proves its naturalness and health benefits.

A good way to make sure the fruit in question is free both from microbes and the risk of ingestion has been minimized an unnecessarily large amount of chemical impurities, it is multiplied gentle fruit (or vegetable) bath.
