Floccularia straw yellow belongs to the category of little-known mushrooms of the Champignon family and is officially called Floccularia straminea (Floccularia straminea). The species is on the verge of extinction as a result of fires, grazing and deforestation. Therefore, in many countries they are trying to grow it in artificial conditions.
What does floccularia straw yellow look like?
Straw yellow floccularia is characterized by an unusual shade, which noticeably distinguishes it from the background of other mushrooms. It has a small size, a pleasant mushroom smell and a sweetish-tasting pulp.
Cap Description
In young specimens, the cap has a convex rounded shape. But as it matures, it becomes bell-shaped, prostrate, and sometimes flat. Its diameter ranges from 4-18 cm. Tightly fitting large fringed scales are clearly visible on the surface. Initially, the color is bright yellow, but gradually it fades and becomes straw.
The fruit body has a fleshy dense texture. The upper shell is dry, matte. On the reverse side of the cap are plates that fit snugly together. Initially, they are light, and then become yellow.
Description of the leg
At the break, the flesh is dense, uniform white. The length of the leg varies between 8-12 cm, and the thickness is 2,5 cm. At the top, under the hat, the surface is smooth and light. At the bottom, at the base, there are shaggy areas, on which yellow bedspreads of a soft consistency are clearly visible. Some specimens have a flimsy ring.
Is the mushroom edible or not?
This mushroom is edible, but its nutritional value is very low due to its small size.
Where and how to grow
Straw yellow floccularia prefers to grow in coniferous and mixed forests, under aspens and in spruce forests. It can also be found in the steppes. Grows singly and in groups.

Twins and their differences
One of the straw-yellow floccularia twins is the edible Ricken floccularia, which also belongs to the Champignon family. It grows mostly in the Rostov region. The main difference between the species is the external color. The doppelgänger is cream-colored. Otherwise, the mushrooms are very similar.
Straw-yellow floccularia in appearance also resembles cotton psatirella, which should not be eaten. It is characterized by a brown-scaly cap and a more slender fruiting body. The plates on the reverse side are brown. Place of growth – wood of deciduous trees.
Conclusion
Straw yellow floccularia is a rare specimen that is of great interest to specialists. His collection is of little value. And idle curiosity in this case can lead to its complete loss. Therefore, it is better to give preference to more famous and tasty varieties.
