Strainer: types and description

A strainer is an accessory that is in any bar, and which no bartender, whether a professional or a beginner, can do without. Thanks to the strainer, you can separate the foam or ice so that they do not fall into the glass.

Hawthorne strainer

One of the most important bar inventory tools that any bar should have. The photo of this strainer is above.

Havrton strainer consists of a metal plate (base), a spring attached to it and two ears. The spring provides a snug fit to the walls of the shaker or mixing glass when pouring, and the lugs serve for a more secure fixation. Thanks to the hawthorne strainer, the bartender filters out large ingredients (pieces of fruit, ice, etc.) when pouring a cocktail into a glass.

Julep strainer

A small sieve, which is also used when pouring cocktails into a glass.

Unlike its brother (hathorn strainer), the julep is best used when weeding out plants such as mint, rosemary, lemongrass, etc., as they can easily get tangled in the spring in the hathorn. But in order to learn how to use it, the bartender will need to spend a little time mastering certain professional skills.
