Stomatitis is an inflammation of the oral mucosa. This disease can develop as an independent one, or it can be a symptom of other diseases: the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, allergic, infectious, blood. Treatment of stomatitis involves eliminating the cause of the disease, as well as rinsing the mouth with antiseptic and pain relievers.
Symptoms and types of stomatitis
Exacerbations of chronic diseases of internal organs, nervous system, smoking, lack of vitamins in food, alcohol consumption predispose to the appearance of stomatitis. Stomatitis occurs in both adults and children.
Acute stomatitis, as a rule, proceeds with an increase in temperature up to 38-39 ° C, pain in the oral cavity. Aphthae (small vesicles) appear on the mucous membrane, which, bursting, form ulcers and erosion.
Distinguish between chronic, catarrhal, ulcerative-necrotic and aphthous stomatitis.
When treating stomatitis, official and traditional medicine recommends rinsing your mouth with agents that have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. They should be used warm.

Traditional medicine recipes for the treatment of stomatitis
Traditional medicine, in addition to eliminating the cause of the disease, provides for the treatment of the oral cavity with antiseptic agents. Traditional medicine suggests rinsing with clean hot water. This procedure must be carried out several times a day.
To reduce the soreness of the mucous membrane, rinse the mouth with a solution of hydrogen peroxide, which must be diluted in water in the proportion:
- 1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
- ½ glass of water
It is recommended to treat stomatitis in a child by rinsing with freshly squeezed cabbage juice, half diluted with boiled water.
You can also rinse your mouth with Kalanchoe juice or from aloe leaves
With stomatitis, gingivitis, the initial stage of periodontal disease, the following procedure is effective: rinse the sore spots with hydrogen peroxide. Then dry with a warm stream of air, and then drip a few drops of 50% propolis tincture with a pipette. Then dry again with a warm stream of air until a thin propolis film is formed.
When treating stomatitis at home, you can use the following drug, for which you will need:
- 3 large garlic cloves
- 2 teaspoons of yogurt
In this recipe, yogurt can be replaced with yogurt. To do this, grind 3 cloves of garlic into gruel and mix them with a dessert spoon of yogurt. Then take the mixture into your mouth and apply to all sore spots.
Take large cloves of garlic, peel them and grind them into gruel. Then combine with 2 teaspoons of yogurt and stir well. Warm the mixture slightly, put it in your mouth and hold it, trying to distribute it with your tongue over all affected areas. Repeat this procedure several times, ignoring the inevitable burning sensation. The course of treatment is designed for 4-5 days.
To quickly relieve inflammation, it is recommended to apply raw potatoes, ground into gruel or cut into slices, to the gums.
Effective in the treatment of stomatitis, tinctures and decoctions made from medicinal herbs and fees.
To prepare a medicinal tincture from the herb St. John’s wort, you will need:
- 1 tablespoon dry herb St. John’s wort
- 5 tablespoons of vodka or 40% alcohol
Mix the herb St. John’s wort with vodka or alcohol (40%) in a 1: 5 ratio. Stir well and leave in a dark place for 2 days. Take the tincture as an anti-inflammatory and astringent rinse for the gums and mouth. To do this, dilute 30-40 drops of the tincture in ½ glass of water. Also take 40-50 drops of tincture inside.
To prepare another infusion, you should take:
- 15-20 grams of chamomile flowers
- 4 grams of boric acid
- 1 glass of water
Pour dry chamomile flowers with a glass of boiling water. Wrap the dishes with liquid and leave for 2 hours. Then add boric acid to the infusion. Use as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory for the oral cavity.
To prepare a decoction of calendula inflorescences, you will need the following components:
- 1 tablespoon medicinal calendula flowers
- 1 glass of water
Pour a tablespoon of medicinal calendula inflorescences with a glass of boiling water, put on a low heat and cook for 10 minutes. Then strain and use as a bactericidal and regenerating mouthwash.
In case of stomatitis, it is also recommended to use a rinse prepared from the rhizome of erect cinquefoil.
It will require:
- 1 teaspoon erect cinquefoil rhizome
- 1 glass of water
Pour a teaspoon of crushed Potentilla rhizome with an erect glass of hot water. Insist for 5 hours. Then boil and rinse your mouth.
You can also prepare an ointment from the rhizome of Potentilla erect, which is used to treat sore bleeding gums.
To make an ointment, you should take:
- 20 grams of erect cinquefoil rhizome
- 100 milliliters of 40% alcohol
- glycerol
Prepare a tincture from the rhizome of Potentilla erect and alcohol. To do this, pour the rhizome crushed into powder with alcohol and leave for 2 days. Then mix 10 parts of the prepared tincture with 5 parts of glycerin until smooth.
