Stodal – what is it, composition, effect of the syrup, contraindications to use

Stodal is the trade name of the homeopathic cough syrup from Boiron. It can be purchased at a pharmacy without a prescription, in a 200 ml package. Often, pharmacists recommend Stodal cough syrup of various origins, and when the patient is unable to determine whether he is suffering from a dry or a wet cough.

What is homeopathy?

Boiron is a manufacturing company homeopathic remedies. These drugs are prepared according to a special recipe, consisting in obtaining active substances by diluting them multiple times in an appropriate manner. The essence of homeopathic remedies is based on the principle of similarity. Very small doses (highly diluted) of substances are used, which in higher concentrations would cause symptoms such as disease symptoms.

Composition and action of Stodal syrup

Stodal syrup is a complex product and contains active dilutions of many substances of natural origin, including plant and animal. These are: ( tartaricum fungus), Antimonium tartaricum 6 CH (antimony-potassium tartrate, so-called vomiting stone), Myocarde 6 CH (heart muscle), Coccus cacti 3 CH (cactus June insect), Drosera TM (sundew).

As you can see, in addition to plant extracts, there are also dilutions of substances of animal origin and chemical compounds whose very low dilutions have a healing effect.

The Stodal syrup also includes interesting auxiliary substances – among them Tolutan syrup (based on tolu balm with a resinous nature, having an expectorant effect) and mallard syrup, which also has an expectorant effect, so they enhance the effect of homeopathic dilutions and give the syrup the right consistency. The syrup contains alcohol and sucrose.

Stodal syrup is used in children over 6 years of age (in the case of younger children, consult a doctor). In children, 5 ml of the syrup is used 3 to 5 times a day, and in adults, 15 ml also 3-5 times a day.

Contraindications and precautions when using Stodal syrup

Hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients is an absolute contraindication to the use of Stodal syrup. Moreover, due to the alcohol content, pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications to its use. It cannot be used by people suffering from alcoholism. An absolute contraindication to use is also galactosemia, due to the content of sucrose (sucrose includes galactose, which in this genetic disease cannot be metabolized). Caution should also be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus.
