1/8 Osa

Wasps are one of the most troublesome «holiday» insects. They are the bane of every picnic where sweets appear. A wasp sting is painful, but the poison is theoretically not harmful. Unfortunately, only theoretically, because it can cause severe anaphylactic shock in allergic people.

2/ 8 Turkuć snack

Turkuć spends most of his life underground. You can come across it, e.g. while digging through the garden. It is not poisonous, but its bite is extremely painful and dangerous, as it can result in infection with tetanus.

3/ 8 Hornet

Hornets are also members of the wasp family, and are larger than wasps – they also have a much larger sting. The largest species of hornet – the European hornet – is common in Poland. Its venom contains slightly more toxins than wasp venom, but it is no more dangerous. The sting itself, on the other hand, is more painful – this is due to the fact that a large sting penetrates the skin deeper. Several hundred bites would be necessary to kill a healthy person with broader venom.

4/ 8 Tick

Anyone who has spent their holidays camping in the forest has certainly “caught” a tick at least once. The tick itself is not dangerous, but the bacteria it transmits, i.e. Lyme spirochetes, are dangerous. The first symptom of Lyme disease is an erythema that travels around the bite site. It is visible in the form of a red ring. However, it should be remembered that Lyme disease does not cause erythema in every case – sometimes we can be sick even though there is no erythema.

5/8 Go back

In warm countries, mosquitoes can transmit malaria and the equally deadly dengue fever. In Poland, however, these insects are not a source of germs that are dangerous to humans. However, this does not change the fact that their bites are particularly unpleasant, so if you are going for an evening barbecue, arm yourself with an insect repellent.

6/ 8 Bee

Bees are especially dangerous because an attack usually occurs when they feel their hive is under threat. Then not one bee is defended, but the whole swarm. Even people who are not allergic can get shocked from so many stings.

7/ 8 Ant

Ants are not a threat to humans, but their bites can be very unpleasant. There are about 40 species of them in Poland. The easiest way to find them is in the woods. So if you spot an anthill while walking, avoid it with a wide berth.

8/ 8 Araneus spider

This term is usually used to describe spiders from the Teutonic family, which are characterized by the presence of a cross pattern on the abdomen. There are about 50 species of “Teutonic Knights” in Poland. They are poisonous, but their venom is not harmful. So far, no complications after a spider’s bite have been reported.
