Stilnox

Stilnox is a drug used in psychiatry and neurology for the short-term treatment of insomnia. The preparation affects the central nervous system and has hypnotic properties. Stilnox is available as tablets and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Indications for use of the drug Stilnox

The active substance in Stilnox is zolpidem. The preparation is used in the short-term treatment of insomnia. Take it orally at bedtime.

Dosage:

The preparation should be used once a day for several days to two weeks, not longer than four weeks. Occasionally, a prolongation of treatment may be necessary, but this cannot be achieved without reassessing the patient’s clinical condition. Debilitated patients, with hepatic failure or the elderly – 5 mg.

Stilnox and contraindications and warnings

Contraindications to the use of Stilnox are:

1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
2. obstructive sleep apnea syndrome,
3. myasthenia gravis,
4. severe liver failure,
5. acute and / or severe respiratory failure,
6. do not use in children.

Stilnox and other substances

Tell your doctor about the concomitant use of:

1. fluvoxamine (increased blood levels of zolpidem)
2. opioid analgesics (increased euphoria – development of addiction),
3. drugs that activate the cytochrome P3 4A450 isoenzyme (e.g. ketoconazole), which may increase the concentration of zolpidem in the blood and increase its effect,
4. rifampicin (decreased blood levels of zolpidem)
5. central nervous system depressants, e.g. antipsychotics (neuroleptics), other sleeping pills, anxiolytics and sedatives, antidepressants, opioid analgesics, antiepileptics, drugs used for general anesthesia and sedative antihistamines (may increase the effect of the preparation and sleepiness) and psychomotor disorders and the ability to drive),
6. ciprofloxacin and zolpidem (ciprofloxacin may increase the blood levels of zolpidem).

Stilnox – side effects

During treatment with Stilnox, the following may appear: upper and lower respiratory tract infections, anterograde amnesia (amnesia may be behavioral), hallucinations, agitation, nightmares, fatigue, confusion, irritability, double vision, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, somnolence, headache, dizziness, worsening of insomnia.
