Sternum fracture – diagnosis, treatment

It most often occurs as a result of traffic accidents, hitting the chest against the steering wheel or as a result of crushing injuries. Most often they are fractures of the sternum body, mostly without displacement.

Sternal fractures occur as a result of a high-strength trauma. It is a severe trauma that can damage the internal organs of the chest.

Diagnosis fractures are determined on the basis of a chest X-ray.

Treatment

Patients require observation in hospital conditions, also for heart contusions. Fractures with displacement to the mediastinum qualify for surgical treatment, fracture setting and fracture fixation.
