The 88 rungs of happy people

In this chapter of ‘The 88 Steps of Happy People’ I tell you why putting on long-term dramas is not constructive

Step 76: “The mind is great when it produces ideas. Terrible when it makes noise »

Two children fight. The dispute lasts five minutes. How long does anger last? Another five. Two adults fight. The dispute lasts five minutes. How long does anger last? Five days (and in some cases, a lifetime). Whose fault is it? Of the beast that you carry inside. Which? This:

“It’s been five days and I still can’t believe it. I made him the omelette for breakfast and instead of thanking me for the effort, he complains that he lacked salt. But who the hell does he think I am? His servant? I’m not going to allow him to give me an answer like that ever again. And most likely, everything has been quiet as if nothing had happened. Surely he doesn’t even remember anymore. As long as you don’t ask for forgiveness, I won’t make you breakfast again in your life.

That mental noise is the beast. She is responsible for the drama and bitterness perpetuated. For a long time I had a misconception of justice that led me to think that a drama is not wrong as long as the matter is serious enough, since I saw it as a form of equanimity – if a drama is not staged, then the situation is going to seem less serious than it is, and that would not be fair, ”I thought. Today I am aware that it is the other way around. Drama is one of the main attributes of people with low interior height. It is another of the ego’s hidden pleasures.

How can it be that people like to perpetuate a problem that is painful in the long run? Because in the short term it gives pleasure

Staging long-term dramas is not constructive, but in the short term … it likes it. How can you avoid the persistence of a problem? Taming the beast. And how does the beast tame? Eliminating mental noise.

– Anxo, isn’t that very difficult?

It depends. If you don’t buy me the solution I’m about to give you, it is. Otherwise, it is not so. The problem is that this solution is full of prejudices. I had them all my life. Every time someone recommended it to me, I never bought their advice. It seemed like the biggest waste of time. But he was wrong. And how can it be that having something so useful at my fingertips I rejected it for so long? Because I wasn’t the one doing it. It was my Black Bag. One of the main threats to the ego is letting go of past beliefs. Remember that the ego LOVES being right and changing beliefs means not being right. Recognizing a mistake is tremendously painful for the ego, and therefore, when someone comes to us with something that involves changing the previous way of thinking, what do we do almost instantly? Tense up and make more noise. “That can’t be so,” our mind, the beast, rebels.

Ready for the solution to how to tame your beast and eliminate all that mental noise that perpetuates bitterness? Well here it goes. But first promise me to make the effort to control your desire to rebel against her by reading it, since that rejection does not come from you. It comes from your ego, your Black Bag.

In a previous Step I said that one hundred percent of the suffering that exists in the world comes from a single place: the human mind. Therefore, if we manage to stop the mental noise, we will be de facto stopping the factory of suffering, that is, taming the beast. And what is the best tool to tame the silence and get to be the one who controls your mind instead of it being the one who controls you? The meditation.

– Anxo, the same one that you rejected for years?

Yes. Another one of my mistakes. Meditation is possibly the best tool to tame your mind. If you listen to your ego, you reject before trying. If you listen to your essence, you test first and reject (or not) later. I recommend that you do the second and give it a try. Actually, not one, but at least four, since it does not usually work the first time. By doing so you will recognize that you had a beast inside you, your mind, that when it is domesticated, it gives you happiness, but when not, it inflicts bitterness on you.
