In this chapter of “The 88 Steps of Happy People” I explain how there is a “success script” that will help you solve problems
With a frequency that is usually annual, we organize my biggest personal development event in Madrid. It is a massive event that attracts people from all corners of Spain and from abroad. If you follow me, surely you already know him. And one of the themes that I always end up playing directly or indirectly at that event is the “success script”, given its enormous repercussion in all other areas.
El success script It could be summed up this way: it’s a set of winning phrases, each of which has been strategically designed to be the perfect phrase for the perfect moment. They are phrases that take time to find, but which, once found, can be certain that, applied to the right situation, they will always work. The process requires, on the one hand, find that winning phrase for each situation and adapt it to oneself to feel comfortable with the final result (something that is not achieved the first time), and on the other, memorize each of their words literally, without adding or subtracting anything, since, if it really is a winning phrase, no modification needed.
The second purpose of this Rung is to provide you with a couple of script examples of success, with winning phrases for different scenarios. But the first is that you transcend these examples and that, by raising your level of consciousness while reading this Step and being aware of the existence of success scripts and their enormous power, you show yourself dissatisfied with them and predispose yourself to generate a thousand more.
Imagine that …
You are with your friends in a bar. Someone throws a riddle and no one seems to be able to solve it except you. Your friend Marta, the girl who launched the riddle, smiles at you, looks you in the face and throws a compliment that comes from her soul. “I always said you were brilliant,” he exclaims. As soon as you hear the compliment, two energies run through your body at full speed making you feel a burning from head to toe. An energy comes from how flattered you feel; the other of how much it makes you blush, since you have no idea how to handle the compliment. Your biggest fear is looking cocky, so your insecurity leads you to do anything but accept it. You touch your hair first. Then you tie your shoes. And finally you drop a comment that denies the compliment with the intention of being modest, but whose effect is the opposite of what you were looking for: “What’s up … I’m not brilliant at all.” Consequently, your compliment feels cut off and somewhat rejected. A week later, just when he was going to give you another compliment, he changes his mind and decides to shut it up.

You and your wife are angry. You both want the other to give his arm to twist. Neither does. You both decide to go to sleep without resolving the dispute and withdrawing love instead of giving it, despite being aware that these types of disagreements in the long run damage the relationship.

Your boss holds you accountable to the entire team for the failure of your company’s annual event to attract customers. The failure was not your responsibility, but an order from your supplier that did not arrive on time. You feel humiliated, you become enraged, and as a result of the heat, you decide to quit your job on the spot.

• [To your boss.] We are five minutes away from resolving the misunderstanding. Would you grant them to me?
«Antoñito, have you done your homework?». Antoñito has not heard anything of what you have just said because he is exceeding the fourth level of his favorite video game. “Yesterday your teacher told me that you had to improve in math and I am very worried.” Antoñito kills four of the bad guys and goes from level five to six. “If you don’t listen to me, I’m going to tell your father.” Antoñito has just achieved a new personal record. He is elated. You not so much. You get the feeling that your advice goes in one ear and out the other, but that feeling is wrong. They never entered him.
