The 88 rungs of happy people

In this chapter of “The 88 steps of happy people” I explain how the word work has a broader meaning than you imagine

Step 35: “Life is a menu with only two dishes: either grow up or plummet”

How do you know if someone is tall or short? By the number of centimeters it measures. How do you know if someone has a higher or lower degree of inner development? In case it is very “worked” or little. This is the other use of the verb to work, and of course of the two, the most important; not the work you do outside to grow as a professional, but the one you do inside to grow as a human being.

– Does someone scold your girlfriend at the disco and you turn on fast? Little worked.

– Do you control yourself when someone provokes you? Very worked.

– Do you feel anger against someone and vent your anger? Little worked. Do you feel the anger but tame the anger? Pretty worked. Have you reached the level of inner height that makes you not even feel the rage? Super-worked.

– A father uses vulgar words at your children’s school. You confront him and tell him how he should act in order for him to change. Little worked. You recognize that your responsibility is not to teach that parent, but to learn to control your desire to do so. You control yourself. Very worked.

– Someone comes to you with the phrase «you will not believe who they have cheated on». You bite the hook and unleash your curiosity. Little worked. You recognize that giving in to gossip destroys, and respecting people’s lives builds. You ask not to know and you go. Very worked.

– You have been a famous singer in the past. Today you seclude yourself in your house because you have believed your own character and you cannot stand that people see you decadent. Little worked. You transcend your character and sign up for a course that allows you to grow and relate. You get over what they will say. Very worked.

– You open your social networks, you find a hundred positive comments and one negative. The positives last in your mind for a second. The negative, all day. Little worked. You are aware that whoever does not like a comment like this is your ego. You deliver it. Very worked.

For every tentacle of the ego, from the simplest tantrum to a serious case, such as financial ruin, there is someone on this earth capable of remaining calm, and not out of disinterest, but through evolution. AND the only thing that separates these people from the rest is how hard they are. This is something of crucial importance, since it is the formula that disassociates our level of happiness from the circumstances. You can be happy on the inside regardless of what happens on the outside. But it is only achieved by working, not to change others, but by working to change oneself.

The simple act of reading a book like this is already a considerable part of that work (especially understanding that the effect occurs when it is read more than once); And of course all that requires effort, but the good thing about it is that the prize is huge. What explains this Step (and the whole book as a whole) is the formula that makes our level of happiness It does not depend on how favorable or unfavorable our life is on the outside, but on how hard we are on the inside. Being worked means neither more nor less than having an enormous training in detecting and controlling our Black Bag, the ego, and invest in that training it may be the number one investment each of us can make.

– Anxo, but then this is supposed to be something that I will have to do every day for the rest of my life?

– Do you eat daily? Well, the effort required to work is the same. But the prize is infinitely greater.

Of all the reasons you have come to this world, the main one is … to be happy
