Steamer rice: how to cook? Video
Rice cooked in a double boiler is ideal for diet food. It retains all vitamins and turns out to be delicate, crumbly. True, rice groats contain very little fiber, but this deficiency can be easily replenished by steaming rice with vegetables or dried fruits. You will get a quick, healthy and tasty dish.
You will need: – 1 glass of round grain rice; – 2 glasses of water; – 1 onion; – 1 medium-sized carrot; – 1 sweet bell pepper; – salt, pepper to taste; – fresh herbs (dill, parsley); – 1-2 tablespoons tablespoons of butter or vegetable oil.
Instead of round grain rice, you can use long grain rice in this recipe. It usually takes a few minutes longer to cook and is more crumbly.
Rinse the rice until the water drained from it becomes clear. Wash and peel vegetables. Grate the carrots on a coarse grater, chop the onion and pepper into small cubes.
Fill the steamer with water, place a bowl with holes on it. Pour the rice into the cereal insert, season with salt and pepper, and stir. Top with chopped vegetables. Cover with boiling water. Place the insert in the bowl, close the lid and turn on the steamer for 40-50 minutes.
When the steamer shuts down, add oil, finely chopped fresh herbs to the rice and stir. Close the lid for a few minutes to let the rice sit.
Delicacy rice with dried fruits and nuts
You will need: – 1 glass of rice; – 2 glasses of water; – 4 dried apricots; – 4 berries of prunes; – 2 tablespoons of raisins; – 3-4 walnuts; – 1-2 tablespoons of honey; – a little butter; – salt on the tip of a knife.
Rinse the rice and dried fruit. Cut dried apricots and prunes into small cubes. Chop the nuts.
Pour water into the base of the steamer. Place the bowl on it. Pour rice into the insert for cooking cereals, salt, pour two glasses of boiling water. Place the insert in the bowl. Place the lid on the steamer and turn it on for 20-25 minutes. During this time, the rice will be cooked until half cooked.
Place nuts and dried fruits in the rice. Turn on the steamer for another 20-30 minutes. Then add butter and honey, stir. Close the lid and let it brew for a few minutes.
Brown and wild rice garnish
You will need: – 1 cup of a mixture of brown and wild rice; – 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil; – 2-2,5 cups of water; – salt and pepper to taste.
Brown unpolished rice and wild rice (water tsitsania seeds) have unique nutritional value. However, due to the lack of pre-treatment, their grains are very tough. They take much longer to cook than white rice.
Rinse the rice thoroughly, cover with cold water and leave overnight. Drain the water.
Prepare your steamer. Pour the rice into the cereal insert, season with salt and pepper and stir. Cover with boiling water. Close the lid and turn on the steamer.
A crumbly side dish of brown and wild rice is steamed for at least an hour. You can cook it longer for 10-20 minutes, if you want the grains to soften, add olive oil to the cooked rice.
