Steamed dumplings: the best recipes. Video
Steamed dumplings turn out to be more tender and tasty than ordinary boiled ones. Moreover, this particular cooking option should be chosen if you are afraid that the dough will swell or break during cooking, and the filling will get into the water.
Dough for steamed dumplings
There are several options for making steamed dumplings dough, among which you can choose the most suitable one. Please note only that such recipes should not indicate water: so that the dumplings are tender and tasty, the dough is kneaded in yogurt, whey, milk or kefir. Try, for example, making it from these ingredients:
– 300 g flour; – 125 g milk; – 20 g butter; – 1 egg; – a pinch of salt.
Sift flour and pour into a bowl. Then gradually pour cold milk into the flour, stirring a little. After that add salt and egg, knead the dough thoroughly. Last but not least, add melted butter, which will make the dough more elastic and tasty, knead the dough again.

You can try another option for making dough for steam dumplings – kefir dough. To do this, you will need:
– 0,5 l of kefir; – 0,9 kg of flour; – 2 eggs; – a pinch of salt; – 1 tsp soda.
Add kefir to the flour and start kneading the dough. Then put salt, eggs, baking soda in it and mix again. Before use, it is recommended to cover the dough with a towel and set aside for half an hour.
When the dough is ready, roll it out with a rolling pin, cut out the circles with a glass, fill them with filling and seal.
To steam the dumplings, place them in a double boiler or on cheesecloth attached over a saucepan, cover and leave over boiling water for 15–20 minutes.
Filling options for steamed dumplings
If you want to make an original and very tasty dish, try making dumplings with poppy seeds. This will require:
– 125 g poppy seeds; – 50 g of sugar; – 2 tsp thick honey.
Pour boiling water over the poppy seeds and leave for 20 minutes. During this time, you can start preparing the dough. When the poppy is steamed, drain the water through a very fine strainer that will not let the grains pass, and rub the poppy with a mortar.
You can use a grinder or coffee grinder for grinding, but as a result, the filling may not be aromatic and tasty enough.
Add sugar and honey to the poppy seeds, mix the resulting mass thoroughly and use the filling for making dumplings.
Another option is tender steamed dumplings with strawberries and cherries. Wash the berries, cut the strawberries into slices, and remove the seeds from the cherries. If the berries are a little sour, add sugar to taste. Stir in strawberries and cherries and use as a filling for dumplings.
