Measures to combat quarantine violators have seriously tightened. The State Duma adopted amendments to the bill on criminal liability for non-compliance with the prescribed rules.
Self-isolation in the context of the coronavirus epidemic is a way to save not only yourself, but also those around you. Alas, many do not yet realize the seriousness of the situation and continue to endanger their lives and health – their own and everyone else’s.
In order to suppress the negligence of citizens, on March 31, the State Duma adopted amendments to the bill on criminal liability for violation of quarantine.
Now, for failure to comply with the rules when introducing a high alert regime (which, for example, is now in effect in Moscow), or where an emergency regime is introduced, or there is a threat of an emergency, a more severe punishment is provided.
First of all, the size of fines for individuals, legal entities and officials was increased several times.
According to the new amendments, if a violation of the norms entailed a mass illness by negligence or created a threat of such consequences, the violator faces a fine of five hundred thousand to a million rubles, or deprivation of the right to a profession for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period.
However, if the violation of quarantine led to the death of a person or created a threat of mass illness of people, this is punishable by a fine of one to two million rubles, deprivation of the right to a profession for up to five years, or imprisonment for the same period. In the event of the death of two or more persons, the term of imprisonment is increased to seven years.
