An unusual substance in celery
Celery is used in cooking relatively rarely, or at least much less than it should. We use it to cook broths, possibly as an addition to salads, it is occasionally visible in other dishes. It’s a pity. It turns out that the apigenin contained in celery gives hope for help in many cancers. This is confirmed by research:
- A study funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and America’s National Cancer Institute found celery apigenin could be used in the future for prevention and treatment ovarian cancer. Difficult-to-treat tumor cells were injected into the ovaries of female mice. After the cancer developed in the abdominal cavity, the animals were given apigenin extract. It turned out that this led to the inhibition of the occurrence of metastases from the ovaries to the liver, small intestine and stomach.
- Research published in Molecular Cancer hopes that apigenin limits cell growth cancerous pancreas in a human.
- Research published in October proved that apigenin reduces aggression (propensity to metastasize) in the case of prostate cancer. It is extremely important in the case of this neoplasm, because they threaten the patient most prostate cancer metastases to other organs.
- Researchers at the University of Missouri have shown that apigenin can decrease along with progesterone breast tumor.
A lot of apigenin is also found in parsley and chamomile.
Celery is a very valuable vegetable
Celery, despite its inconspicuous appearance, has a whole list of beneficial properties. It is a good source of potassium, calcium, phosphorus, it also contains vitamin E, PP and B vitamins. Thanks to this, it has anti-stress, anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties. In addition, it strengthens the heart and immune system. Ribbed celery also helps with flatulence and indigestion and cleanses the body.
Celery is also perfect for people on a slimming diet. Enough that it contains very little calories (100 g of tuber has 21 kcal, and 100 g of celery only 13 kcal), it also stimulates metabolism.
