The beautiful euphorbia (poinsettia, fancy poinsettia, star of Bethlehem, Euphorbia pulcherrima) growing wild was surrounded by a greater myth about its toxicity than the one, which is a colorful, decorative plant, extremely popular around Christmas.
Neither animal studies nor human cases have confirmed the high toxicity of poinsettias, thus releasing it from the title of a poisonous plant. Ingestion of small amounts does not cause any symptoms. Latex-like sap from damaged leaves can sometimes cause skin irritation.
