Fir description:

  • The tree grows very slowly, at 30 years old the height is only 1,5 m.The annual growth of the trunk upwards is about 8 cm, branches in width – 10 cm.
  • The shape of the crown depends on the age of the tree. In the first years, it is spherical, slightly flattened. With age, it becomes wide-conical. It is very dense.
  • The needles are prickly, silvery-blue, young shoots have a brighter shade. The length of the needles is up to 1 cm.
  • The branches are short, tough. There are elongated cones, 5-10 cm in length. They ripen and fall off in a year.

The variety is shade-tolerant, frost-resistant, not picky about the soil, resistant to drought, dust, gas and smoke. It can be used for landscaping urban recreational areas.

Planting spruce “Glauka Globoza”

Spruce loves sunny areas. For planting, choose a place with fertile, moist, acidic soil, pH = 4-5,5. The spruce does not like moisture very much, so be sure to drain it. The more fertile the soil, the more powerful the root system will form in the seedling. Strong and deep roots are the key to the growth and development of the spruce.

Planting a seedling:

  1. Dig a hole 2 times larger behind the root system of the tree, 50-70 cm deep.
  2. At the bottom of the hole, pour a layer of crushed stone 10-20 cm. Lower the roots into the hole so that the root collar is level with the soil surface.
  3. Fill the hole with soil mixture, which consists of leafy, soddy soil, peat and sand in a ratio of 2: 2: 1: 1.
  4. Water the seedling liberally. Pour 4-6 buckets of water.

Buy seedlings with a closed root system, they take root faster. Plant trees in groups 2-3 m apart. After 2-3 days after planting, feed the spruce with 100-150 g of nitroammofoska or root solution.

Cover the seedling for the first years of life in the spring. Spring sun rays can burn the needles. Spruce does not tolerate soil compaction, so regularly loosen the soil to a depth of 5 cm.

“Glauka Globoza” looks spectacular in solo compositions in the middle of a lawn or as a hedge. In group plantings, it should be planted next to the Belobok variety to create a contrast.
