March and April are difficult times for allergy sufferers. Which plants may pollen the most in the coming days? We present what kind of pollen we should be afraid of in the second half of March.
In the period from 15 to 20 March, it promises to be a relatively good time, because in most of Poland there is a gradual decrease in the highly allergenic alder pollen. In some places, e.g. suburban areas, unfortunately, the concentration of this pollen will still be high. Although the hazel pollen season is slowly coming to an end, the pollen concentration of other plants, which are less important in allergology: poplar, yew and ash, is also increasing.
You have to be careful when it comes to birch dusting. Although it is expected that it will not take place until March 20, it will most likely start after this date (at the turn of March and April).
How to distinguish an allergy from a common cold?
Contrary to appearances, it’s not that hard. Although there are several common features of these two ailments, you can quickly characterize whether you are dealing with an allergy or a simple runny nose. Symptoms shared for allergies and infections:
- runny nose,
- Stuffed nose,
- Sneezing,
- Improvement after nasal drops.
Co different cold allergy:
- Itchy nose or eyes
- No fever (common with colds),
- No muscle pain characteristic of infection,
- No sore throat
- Symptoms depend on the weather and where you live,
- Improvement of well-being after taking antihistamines,
- The allergy lasts more than 3 to 14 days, often weeks or months.
What dusts in March and April. Allergy symptoms to alder pollen
Allergy to plant pollen makes itself felt from winter, when hazel, alder and willow begin to pollen. This period lasts until July and August, when nettles, mugwort and quinoa are the most dusty. On the web you can find pollen calendars that can make the life of allergy sufferers much easier.
Currently, yew, ash, hazel and poplar have very low concentrations. A medium degree is recorded for alder (alder) and a low degree for cladosporium, i.e. mold fungi.
Alder grows especially in wet places, and its pollen is usually produced in huge quantities. Disease symptoms in people allergic to this allergen depend primarily on weather conditions. The flowering of this plant occurs in early spring, that is, in March. It is these allergens that are the most common cause of a runny nose in spring. Symptoms appear suddenly, with no initial symptoms. The most characteristic of them are: watery discharge, nasal itching, impaired nasal patency, sneezing and conjunctival symptoms.
