To split the contents of a single Excel cell into separate columns, you can use Text Distribution Wizard. For example, when you need to split a list of full names into separate columns with first and last names.
- Select a range with full names.
- On the Advanced tab Data (Data) select command Text to Columns (Text by columns).
A dialog box will appear Convert Text to Columns Wizard (Wizard for distributing text into columns).
- Check Delimited (with separators) and click Next (Further).
- Uncheck all items in the list except Comma (comma) and Space (Space).
- Press Finish (Ready).
Note: In this example, the separators are comma and space. You may have other delimiters. Experiment by unchecking and checking the boxes next to different separators. You can always preview the result of data splitting.
